Toilet Paper

I remember reading a post where a lot of people were saying that TP has been one of the hardest things for them to switch, but I went back through 10 pages and can't find it! (Gotta love our non-search function).

What tp do you use?  I bought some recycled stuff at our local market and DH is not a fan, so I need to find something else to try stat or he is going to make me buy Charmin Ultra Strong when we run out in a day or two.

Re: Toilet Paper

  • We use Marcal Small Steps - 100% recycled. We have never been Charmin users - I am the impression it's not great for septics (which we have) so it was not a drastic switch from Scott.

I use this also. It's not as soft as charmin or cottonelle, which DH grew up on, but he has never complained.

We use Marcal too.  DH wasn't psyched about it at first but I told him it is all of 10 seconds that he'll have to "suffer".  I showed him the articles on using old growth trees to make soft tp and he's never complained since!

  • hmm, I'll have to try that and see what he says.  Thanks for the tip =]
  • we use either Trader Joe's 100% recycled, or marcal small steps.  it all depends which store i'm in when i happen to need some, and if they put marcal on sale/have a coupon.

  • We use the Trader Joe's stuff, which is better than the couple others I tried.  I haven't seen that other one recommended by the PPs, though, so I don't know how it compares.  TJ's gets bonus points for being cheaper than the other brands I've tried, as well!
  • I can't remember what brand I bought last. Its definitely not as soft as the fancy old-world-tree-containing TP, but it really doesn't seem to matter. I had a hard time making this change, but once I did, I didn't think it was a big deal at all.

I second this.  DH loved Scotts extra soft and he now loves TJs.

  • I've tried 7th Gen, Marcal single ply and Marcal two ply. Two ply wins. It's not as soft as our old brand, but we adjusted and it's no big deal now. I bought the single ply by mistake last week, and, well, I have 11 more rolls to go : (
  • Charmin Ultra Strong TP is the one thing DH has put his foot down on, I cannot change it.  I've tried showing him the articles about using old growth trees to wipe your @ss, and he says we do plenty of other green things, he's not willing to compromise on this one.  He's right, we do already do a lot and he's always willing to try something new.  So I've decided not to pick this battle.

  • We inherited mass quantities of TP from my grandma.  It's all single ply.  So if we ever run out, I'm sure it won't be difficult to switch to recycled.  We've gotten used to the cheap stuff.

She put dates on some of the packages. It is highly entertaining to open TP purchased in 1983.
