I miss it already. This was a great time to go! I always thought that the summertime would be too crowded or too hot. It was neither. It was odd to see the north shore calm. We couldn't believe Sunset and Pipeline looked so peaceful. It was also different at Kailua. I had seen people complain on tripadvisor about the wind. I thought they were just grumpy. Oh, no, now I get it. Sand would blow in your mouth when you'd try to talk. We just moved our stuff to the grass and ran to the water to swim. It worked out fine, but was not what we usually experience there.
We swam in the ocean every day... plus, snorkeled, boogie boarded, sailed... and... is there a word for floating on the neon tourist raft for hours? hahaha, not only did we do the most touristy thing and just float in the Waikiki kid-zone... my H branded himself with the underwater camera. He didn't wear any sunscreen on his very white belly. The only thing blocking the sun was his camera. He stuck it on his stomach while he was floating on his back. Now, he has a nice white rectangle in the middle of his bright red gut. Too make matters worse... he put 45 sunscreen on his nipples... which he apparently rubbed to make very large white circles. He has an interesting robot face look to his midsection now.
Waikiki was not too crowded... plenty of space on the beach. Surfing than was busier than usual. The sunset cruises sold out. Duke's was busy. Other areas were not as crowded as I thought that they would be in summer. I imagined that locals (especially kids out of school) would enjoy the windward and north shore beaches. There were less people than October. Waimanalo was perfect for boogie boarding. Shark's Cove was an interesting snorkel spot. We like Electric Beach better, but ran out of time to get over there.
I'm tired and jetlagged... sorry for the rambling.
Just wanted to say thanks for talking me into going to Hawaii for H's birthday. He's lookin' sexy, sexy with those white eyes and rectangle mouth on his tum-tum.
I wish I could have talked him into Kauai. The more I researched it, the more I thought we should go. The Na Pali coast looks amazing. I want to book a trip for August. I have beach fever so bad. Does medical insurance cover plane tickets?
Thanks, again. You always have good advice (especially about which way the toilet seat covers goes).

Lucky you! I knew I should have stayed in Hawaii.
A guy on tripadvisor posted a link to his pics of Kauai. I loved it b/c he took the time to write a description under the images. It made it seem like a nestie having a conversation ...

He and several other people loved the helicopter tours. If I had a weekend there, I would do a helicopter tour of the Na Pali coast and enjoy the beaches in that area. It looked the most unique.
If I had more time (a week), I would go to Poipu. The beach gets rave reviews from multiple sources.
The canyon might be interesting... hard to say if it would be thrilling enough to be in the heat instead of in the ocean.

Again, who knows if it would be worth the time away from the ocean.
If you go, let me know what you liked.
