IVF and insurance

Anyone know of any insurance companies that cover IVF here in Oregon? I've tried googling and asking my PCP and OB, I just can't seem to find any insurance companies that cover all or even part of IVF. The only place I haven't checked is talking to the IVF clinic, that will be next step. I just figured I would ask here first.

Re: IVF and insurance

  • Most will not.  Especially if you have private insurance, some will even drop you if you start infertility stuff for they see you as too big of a long term cost.  I know I can't be insured unless under a group or I can but it will cost more money then we have.  I hate insurance.  My husband even has a cafeteria. plan for medical with his work and they wouldn't even reimburse his sperm testing or washing for tax reasons???  Seriously when it comes to infertility insurance is just evil.  Most doctor offices that deal with infertility have loan programs though that you can qualify for.  Good luck
  • I wish they would make it mandatory for insurance companies to cover infirtlity procedures in OR like they do in some other states. I just cant afford the $10,000+it costs for the prcudure, and was hoping not to go into debt. I guess it's timeto look into loans. Thanks for your help.
  • It's not the insurance company that is the issue, it's the company you work for.  Most larger companies (Merrill Lynch, JP Morgan, Chase Manhattan, and BofA come to mind) do offer good IF coverage, including IVF.  There was a great article in Conception magazine a few issues back about the "top 100 companies with IF benefits", it was a good article.  I will look this weekend and see if I can find the magazine for you...if you can get hired with one of those companies then you would at leats get some IF and IVF coverage!

GL to you, I know exactly how hard it is to go through IF, there is light at the end of the tunnel.  The Trouble TTC board was great during my harder times.

I actually don't have insurance through my work, its cheaper for me to pay for it out of pocket. (I'm paying close to $200 a month, work is almost $500 a month) There cost is crazy. So, maybe I'm out of luck, since I pay for it myself. I would apprecate that article if you do find it though.
