Ground Transport from Airport

Hi ladies!

I am an IN but will be traveling into CLE in July. I will be meeting up with DH who will be downtown, but without his own car. FIL said that the RTA red line it totally safe, but I would love a girls perspective! DH said he would feel better to have me take a cab or town car, but FIL says that is not neccesary. Thoughts? TIA!

Re: Ground Transport from Airport

  • What time are you arriving?  I'm a grad student at Case and when DH and I were doing long distance I took the RTA to/from the airport/Case all the time (which is the same line you'd be on).  I wouldn't take it really late at night... but I think it is totally safe as long as it is either during the day or not too late (I think I'd take it before 9pm by myself but not much after that... it doesn't run super late anyhow).  If you're getting off at Tower City, which is the main downtown station you should be fine when you exit.

If you need to go somewhere other than Tower City, let me know and I can help with further directions/safety advice.

  • I'd be taking it about 1pm on a Saturday afternoon, and yes, I'd be taking it to Tower City.

From there I would be meeting people near Playhouse Square--is that walkable or would a cab be best? TIA!

  • You should be totally safe at 1pm on a Saturday.  Just note that there aren't as many trains on Saturday's typically... so you may want to check the schedule ahead of time.  You'll be taking the red line.

If you have minimal luggage and it is nice outside, walking wouldn't be bad.  It's a straight shot down Euclid to playhouse square.  It is probably about 8 blocks or so (just called DH who works downtown and he said less than a half mile).  If you have a large suitcase, a cab will be easier.  Exit tower city on public square (you should see signs I think for exits towards the square).  If you need a cab, there is a hotel right near that entrance so there will definitely be one nearby.

If you walk on Euclid, you'll pass E. 4th street, which is a newer area with fun restaurants/bars and a new restaurant on the right just past there called Zinc with a really nice outdoor patio.  We ate there a week or so ago and it was really good!

  • thanks again for the detailed info (and checking with DH!)

    I really appreciate the help!
