Need Help! What to put here?
We are interested in planting some low maintenance, full sun, perennials and/or bushes here. Day lillies are one of my contenders, but I was wondering what you thought? We are probably going to put down some white or lighter colored rock (I know the consensus on here is to use mulch, but my lovely German Shepherd loves to dig here when the mulch was down and she doesn't bother the other areas where we have rock down). With our twins now here, we really want to have something that will look nice and require little work. TIA

Re: Need Help! What to put here?
I'm thinking a bit larger in terms of size....you could always fill in with day lillies. Also, not sure of your zone and whether or not these would work for you. Anyway, I have the following in the front of my home (direct sun): Butterfly Bush (love me some Nanho Blue), Carol Mackie Daphne, Korean Spice Viburnum, Miss Kim Lilac & Landmark Rhododendron.
I'm looking for the same help...so I am very interested to see what responses you get...
but instead of lurking I had to write to tell you how adorable your little girls are! My nieces name is Tessa and I love the name Avery...congrats!
I literally had the same problem and went to my local garden center and they drew it out for me. I ended up planting a hydrangea in the middle, 3 spirea (sp?) on one side and a blue beard. Those are all the bushes I planted. Then I planted perennial flowers in front (an assortment).
With bushes, just make sure to note how big they get and space things appropriately. I did half and went back to the garden center with pics and he made me move them to put them far enough apart. It was hard for me because I wanted to fill the space out. I ended up planting some annuals to fill things in a little.
The guy at the garden place had me measure and take pics beforehand. It was really helpful! I also wanted low maintenance. You don't have to do anything at all for the bushes unless you want to cut them back once a year to keep them smaller.
