Better Safe than Sorry

Hey Ladies!

I apologize for being MIA for about a month now. I got back from the honeymoon and started to get everything settled and then my purse got stolen. I was at my little sisters birthday party and someone stole my purse-the nerve!

Of course, this is on a Saturday and on Friday I tried to get my SS# changed but their computer system was down...gonna have to wait until Monday. Well that meant my original marriage license was in my purse, along with my passport, wallet, mine & my HH car keys, everything!

It has been just a mess trying to get everything situated. I wanted to just say that signing up for credit monitoring is well worth it and it is also good sense to get a few certified copies of your marriage license. That was the only irreplaceable thing that was stolen :( The credit monitoring has been really helpful since the jerks now have all of my info they would need to set up a new CC or loan.

I know I had heard this before also but I never did it; have a card that has all of your CC info, phone serial #, etc info on it so you know who you need to call to get the cards canceled.  Also, put a lock on your phone b/c now they have all of my family and friends information. I had everyone's address and whatnot in my phone from addressing wedding invites and thank-yous.

I hope this doesn't sound "preachy" but if I can save someone else the headache i've been going through the past few weeks then it's worth it. I wish someone had made me do all of the above and I could have saved myself a ton of headaches.

Anywho...looks like everyone is doing wonderful and  I'm looking forward to getting back in w/ my May knotties!

  • Ugh! What a mess. Is there a particular credit monitoring service that you like? I should probably sign up for something like that... I had some trouble getting a couple of my FICO scores last time I tried. It'd be nice to know that everything's peachy.
  • Welcome back! I'm sorry you had your purse stolenSad. HH and I have credit monitering through our bank, its really handy. I think you gave some great advice! Hope you get everything sorted out soon! Can you go to the courthouse and get another copy of your marriage certificate?
Two souls but a single thought; Two hearts that beat as one image
  • Thats crazy sorry you are going through all of this thats nuts!!! Hugs and some very good advice you have there.
  • I signed up with protectmyid.com which is through experian credit union. I also found transunion to be very helpful.Although all three credit unions do work together when it comes to fraud situations. So you can sign up with any of them and then when/if you report all 3 put alerts on your information.

I dont think I can get a new original copy of my marriage license, but it cant hurt to call the courthouse and ask.

  • ugh what a mess!!! My brothers girlfriends purse was stolen last week while she was at work! They got everything too, luckily not her SS card, but house keys, spare car key, credit cards, DL, work ID, bank cards, Her pruse was like a suitcase!
