Weight Loss

sooo ive gained so much weight recently (even worse b/c of where i work). im the heaviest i have ever been in my life. its embarrassing. i know this didnt happen overnight. i just ate sh!t and didnt care about portion control. im 5'3 and i carry almost all my weight in my tummy and legs. i feel soo ashamed about my body.

i work at a place where i learn about health everyday, ive had a personal trainer before, i know that this doesnt happen overnight and know that there is no miracle cure - its all about diet and exercise.

i have the insanity program and the 30 day shred. i plan to do the 30ds in the am before i head off to work and insanity in the evenings along with eatting better. ive done insanity off on on before. has anyone tried it or 30ds and had success?! any tips for losing my weight faster?!? any tips on staying motivated?!?! tia.

Re: Weight Loss

  • I lost 40 pounds slowly over a year by eating cereal.  I am not kidding.

I ate captain crunch morning, noon, and night.  Idk how it worked, the captain is obviously not a healthy/diet cereal.  The special k diet is 6 lbs. every two weeks.  That one is really easy, cereal for breakfast and lunch, fruit and low cal snack bars in between and normal din din.  I don't abide by the portion control, b/c the cereal is so low cal.

And don't be so hard on yourself woman, geez louise!  Love your body.

  • For me, Weight Watchers has helped the most. I've learned so much just by going to the meetings. I have also learned to hate the word DIET. When you want to lose weight, it's not about the diet, it's abou a lifesyle change, as corney as that sounds.

I have the 30 Day Shred and it will KICK YOUR BUTT. LoL I was doing it for a while but because i was so heavy and out of shape it was hard to get through the first section. I gave up a few times. It's not easy and anyone who says it is probably isn't doing it right.

A lot of my problem was with portion control as well. You have to do more then eat healthy and exercise, you also have to learn portion control... With out that there is nothing. You can eat all the carrots you want but you gatta know when to stop. And finding that point of when you are "full" vs. when you are just eating is tricky. I have been with WW for 8 weeks now and I am still having a hard time sometimes. But using that program, I know I can only eat what I measure out on my plate and that is it. And I am super full afterward I just let it sit for a few minutes.

Now that I am about 15lbs lighter then I was I am able to do more of the 30 Day Shred. I found for me, having people going through the procss with me helps me to stay motivated. I am bumming hardcore because I wont be going to meetings for a few weeks. So now I need to find someone to do daily/weekly check ins with to keep me going....

If you set your mind to it, you can do it. I've tried every single one of those "drink this for 4 days and eat this for 8 days and you'll lose weight fast" tricks out there. Yeah it work for a minute, but as soon as you eat or drink somthing else, it comes right back. It took me a long time (and a lot of pounds) to finally say to myself I've had enough!!! And I am doing good so far.

  • Jess- 15lbs already- you go girl!!! Smile

I have a lapband... and finally after like 2 years, have found my fill spot, where it's controlling how much I eat.  However for me, I lose the most weight when I have to be accountable for it.  So when I attend the support group meetings for my band (similar to going to a weight watchers meeting), no one is telling me I'm fat, but I'm talking to these people and learning about their weight loss, which makes me accountable.

Also, ditto to Jess.... it's not "cheating", you're treating yourself.  If you're going to eat something that's not so great for you, do it because you want to, and don't feel guilty about it, but accept that it will hinder your weightloss, again its being accountable to what you put in your body.

Also, don't reward yourself with food.  So if you lost 10 lbs, don't go have a cupcake because of it.  My relationship with food is one of my biggest issues, when I'm stressed, excited, whatever.  Once you work that out, alot of it comes easier too.

Diet and exercise are key.  Portion your food out, eat slowly, and don't drink when you eat (so you fill up faster).  Making small changes to daily activities can make HUGE differences... also, don't drink your calories, it took me a long time to like (not even love water) but man do I love it's caloric content, plus, if your dehydrated your body will tell you to eat, when really it wants water.

    Sorry for the long post...

  • First of all it is good that you know that you want to lose weight.

Now, I wouldn't recommend doing the 30ds and the insanity program together. That is just too much.

I also wouldn't recommend the special k challenge or Taylor's captain (lose a lot of weight) crunch plan.

Get back into exercising 4-6x a week and take a look at your food habits. I think that WW can be a very good help.

For me though I really believe that you should eat everything in moderation and FAT is not the devil, nor are carbs.

.Also, precision nutrition (John Berardi) is a great system. It's all about nutrient timing.

Good luck, remember slow and steady wins the race

  • Kick start your metabolism by eating 5 mini meals each day.  Try 300 calorie meals every 3 hours, for a total of 1500 calories a day, and be sure to focus on high quality lean protein, lots of vegetables, and legumes.  You must be diligent in your meal planning, which is time consuming, but the results are unbelievable!!!!  Good luck :-)
