Milwaukee

My husband and I will be spending our 1st anniversary in Milwaukee at the end of August. We are planning to do the brewery tour and Brewer's game for sure but are open for suggestions for other things we could do or places to eat. ?Also looking for recommendations on hotels or areas to stay. Any suggestions are appreciated!?

Re: Milwaukee

  • Do the Lakefront Brewery tour, it is the most fun in Milwaukee. As far as places to stay, it depends on the area you want to be in but the Intercontinental is very nice downtown so is the Hilton and Hyatt.
  • Check out the Iron Horse hotel.  It's supposed to be fantastic.

I second the Lakefront Brewery tour recommendation.  Get there early, as the tours sell out quickly.  Great Lakes Distillery (which makes Rehorst vodka and gin as well as some other spirits) is supposed to have a good tour.   I'd also recommend checking out the art museum and spending some time along the lakefront if the weather is nice.  You can rent paddle boats, bikes, and other things like that.

For restaurants, my recommendations for fine dining would be Lake Park Bistro or Sanford.  You can do a chef's tasting menu at Sanford M-F.  I also like Coquette, Osteria del Mondo, Palms, and Hinterland.  For more casual fare, Ouzo (Greek), Cubanitas (Cuban), Milwaukee Ale House (great craft beer).

    Have fun!

  • I second all the previous posters. Plus, look into what festival is going on while you are in town. Some of the festivals on the lakefront and/or around the area are a lot of fun.

  • If you're looking for a hotel that's a bit different, try checking out the new Aloft hotel on Old World 3rd St..  I haven't been there yet, but from what I've read/seen it looks pretty cool.

As for restaurants, a few of my favorites downtown are www.umamimoto.com and www.charrorestaurante.com <-- Get the Ropa Vieja - SO YUMMY!

Hope you have a nice time!

  • you absolutely must stay at the brumder mansion bed & breakfast - it is just west of downtown on wisconsin avenue and it is beautiful, romantic, etc., etc., etc.  OR stay at the sybaris in mequon.  they are both on the web.  enjoy!  and congratulations!
  • Thanks for all of the suggestions!
