pick a front door color

We're going to be painting our old, metal front door.  Jim put me in charge of paint color.  Not a great idea if we're going to be putting in on the market, as I'd choose color #1 below

A few details you should know:

- our house is a sided in light grey.

- the door is beside a huge picture window, so one would be able to see our interior wall, painted color #2 below

- I have a lot of purple and yellow/orange flowers in the garden just below the door, so I'd kind of like it not to clash with the landscaping.

What do you think about #3 below?

And here's how I've figure out how to share the colors.

Go to this link:

http://www.valspar.com/explore-colors/choose-a-color.html

under search, type in "mountain"

color 1, the one I'd pick if we were staying would be the purple called "mountain top"

color 2, the interior wall color, is close to "mountain botanical"

color 3, one up for consideration, is "mountain falls"

Thanks in advance for your help.  I hope this all makes sense.

Re: pick a front door color

  • I really like Mountain Falls.  I think that one will work well with the other colors you have going on, too.

My favorite color for front doors is usually red.  I know it's kind of cliche, but I like it.  The right red could work with your purple and orange flowers as well as green interior wall.

  • If you will be selling, I think the green and purple are too bold so I would vote Mountain Falls, although it is also a bit bold.

Like Suze, I think red looks great especially with gray.  You could always play it safest though and chose black or white, especially if you intend to sell.

  • I'm having a hard time finding the colors you posted on the website. It keeps linking me to some Eddie Bauer cabin thing.  ??

My two cents, since Mountain Botanical is the only one I could find, is that color is not my style (and I realize that paint color is all a matter of personal taste).  It's pretty bold and bright for me.  If you like blue, maybe something more in the Colonial or darker family?  Pic below.

I'm with Suze and like red, or something in the red family.  Not quite bright red, maybe closer to maroon, burgandy?  Pic below.

Or what about green with gray?
    Too pukey?

  • I like Redstone Mountain Brown.  The purple with the green makes me think of Mardi Gras.  The blue just seems to clash with your description of flowers and the house color.  I feel like brown is natural and the green from your garden will carry through to the interior wall.  The brown is natural and bold.  I like that.  But, I'm biased.  Brown is my favorite color!
  • I like the blue and the "pukey" green KerCo posted.
