Sprinkler Systems and trees and DIY ?

Has anyone DIY'd changes in a sprinkler system? we need to change a rotator head to a series of 4 pop-ups.

Also if it is possible the sprinklers should not hit a newely planted tree right? because it would over-water it? We want to plant a black gum tree.

Water shouldn't be hitting newly planted trees OR established trees. You want to keep the bark dry. It really shouldn't be hitting foliage or any above ground growth, but of course that would be impossible in a sprinkler system.

It would be really difficult to over water a Black Gum tree. They naturally occur in swamps. Congrats on a great choice of tree, by the way.

  • Thanks! I tell people what I want to plant and they are like "I've never heard of that" or "a what? "

we are putting in a drip line for our garden areas but it is just not a good choice for the lawn area.

Nyssa sylvatica is one of my favorite trees. They're woefully underused. I love the colorful foliage.

So what made you choose this species? What else do you have/want?
