I have VINES!! I need help!!

Hey everyone, I just bought my first house about a month ago, all the landscaping is going great, except one problem, I have vines. They are taking over my azalea bushes, shrubs, everything!! I tried pulling them out of the ground, and they come back. I tried spraying them with weed killer, and the flourish. Is there anything I can do to get rid of these things?!? They are actually getting soo big they are starting to get wrapped around my porch rail so I had to move it for the 100th time. So if you have any suggestions, please let me know!

  • What kind of vines? Kudzu, morning glory, English Ivy, etc?

  • you can try a brush killer, which is different from a weed killer.

There are many annual weed vines- I just keep pulling them up so they don't have a chance to flower and make seeds. Every year there are fewer, but it's still a problem b/c my neighbor doesn't take care of her yard at all!

  • In my experience, the only thing that really works is pulling it all out by hand.  Make sure that you get all of the runners and roots.  I use a small garden fork to comb the soil to make sure I get it all.  When you're done, you can spray a brush/ivy killer, but for me it just seemed to kill the leaves but not the vines.

    I. HATE.  VINES.

Ivy, honeysuckle, vina, kudzu, you name it.  Hate it all!

  • Ground ivy is the worst. IT NEVER DIES! its like a super weed.
  • What do the vines look like, can you give us a desceription or better yet, a PIP? Ditto the previous responders on the brush/poison ivy killer, but if you don't get the roots it'll just keep coming back.  Make sure you know what poison ivy/oak/sumac look like before you go willy-nilly pulling things bare-handed!
  • Thanks for all of your help!! Well the vines are a very very thin long stringy kind that has heart shaped leaves...the vines are wrapping around everything! I cut them down for temporary relief and the next day they were back and taller...I am going to try what you all recommended and pull them out by hand this weekend
