fav hiking spots??

Where do you ladies like to go hiking?  Is it an easy to hike place, moderate, hard??  Does it have awesome views of the mtns/city??  We're looking for places to check out once we're down there.  We've already hiked Piestawa Peak...beautiful views, but that one was pretty tough for beginners!

  • I've never done this, b/c I am a lazy bum, but....hiking Camelback is apparently a beautiful and challenging hike.

  • Camelback is definitely the most challenging hike in the Valley (although the payoff is great with some awesome views). I like Thunderbird Park, mostly because it's very close to us (59th ave and the 101), and there are lots of different trails. We always do the same trail, though, and I'd say it's an easy-to-moderate difficulty.

I also like hiking at South Mountain, and the Piestewa Peak circumference trail is really pretty.

  • There is the White Tank Mountains right by us in Surprise maybe you guys can go check it out... but i have never been out there myself because well i am a lazy bum right along side Tay! :)

  • personally i love hiking camelback! (i havent gone this yr tho) its hard at first but after a few times it gets easier. my mom was a hiker and took me and my sisters up camelback when i was like in 7th grade - that was our 1st ever hike and sooo worth it - even then! i cant stand piestewa peak...i would perfer to hike down the ghetto streets of phx then go there. hahaha. the white tanks are also a good hike imo. it is not as packed with ppl as camelback either.

I'm not a huge fan of the summit trail. It's too crowded for my taste. But I really enjoyed the circumference trail and thought it was a good challenge. Then again, my friend and I sort of got lost on it and I think we made it a little more difficult than it typically is, so maybe that's why I remember it being a good workout.  ;)

  • Meg- Are you talking about the Summit Trail at Piestewa or Camelback??  When we were there in Nov., we hiked the Summit Trail at Piestewa.  It's gorgeous at the top, but it's def. not an easy "trail" for beginners.  It's hardly even a trail.  I could see how you could get lost on some of those trails though.  They're not marked the best from the looks of things.  I think a nice hike would be a good meet-up GTG sometime this fall.  What do ya think??

LOL, well we could go in the "winter" when it's colder out there.  Although I wouldn't complain about all the yummy snacks either, if you decided to stay home.  :)
