Hope to be moving to Portland next summer!

Learning to start all over again... Blog
Welcome!
HI!
My parents met at Fort Bragg, they were both paratroopers : ) Are you military too, or just your DH?
I grew up in Southern CA and have lived here for 12 years.
Hi Livi,
Welcome to the board. One of my girl friends just came from NC, she and her hubby are both in the Army and met in NC. She got back to the west coast and is now stationed at Fort Lewis.
My husband is the one in the army. Not me! I couldn't handle it. We put in for Ft Lewis and got sent all the way over here somehow. It's only taken me almost a year to get used to it. lol. I moved here July '08, and we got married, then moved back home in dec during the deployment, then back out here in Oct. The bugs here are huge. And the humidity is awful. And we get bad storms. But i'm getting used to it.
There is definitely no place like home, but i'm enjoying the experience of being away. It's nice to meet you all! I'm glad to talk to fellow oregonians for a change. lol
Hi! My family moved from the Midwest to Raleigh my senior year of high school and stayed there for a few years. It was a huge adjustment! The humidity there is awful. I remember not being able to go to work one morning because it rained so much that the road I took had flooded.
But, the southern accents were fun. And the food was amazing. I really miss the BBQ they had there. : ) And BoJangles. I check their website once a year to see if they're spreading from the south so I can hopefully have a country ham biscuit and some of their fries again! Oh, and sweet tea. I could never drink it straight - it always had to be half regular, half sweet or I'd suddenly become diabetic. ; )
Oooh, I forgot about Chick-fil-A! Their waffle fries are the best! They have them in the midwest, but they're few and far between. Not anything like they were in NC.
I wonder if you'll pick up the accent. I know I did, but it didn't come out unless I was tired.
My dh notices it i guess... I don't think i'm doing it but he says i draw out words like no, pepsi, tea... my grandma says i drag out the word class. It's easy to do though! when i'm tired or lazy i just give up and it comes out. lol. But i get made fun of a lot down here for saying pop...
I love those waffle fries. And the polynesian sauce! It's so funny though, i'll tell people we don't have bo jangles and chik-fil-a back home and they look at me like i crawled out from under a rock and say "what do you eat?!" My personal favorite... "oh oregon, that's above wyoming right?" We truly are the forgotten state
I refused to call it soda when I was there. I'd call it pop and get the "Huh?" look. So I'd call it Coke instead, because I just can't call it soda.
People always got Iowa (where I was from) mixed up with Ohio. But that happened in Boston, too. Just be glad that the rednecks won't all move here and subject us to NASCAR. They'll all end up in Canada, stay for a winter, and then run back home where it's warm and humid.
