squash not growing, leaves dying
I am growing spaghetti squash and the "vine" is growing, but no squash are. Some of the leaves are brown and dying too. What am I doing wrong? It has been really hot here, but I have been watering. I thought I saw one growing but it disappeared.
What animals would eat it at night? I have a fenced in yard and no rabits, etc. It's not eating my eggplant.
Also, some leaves on my peppers have bug bites. What could that be?
Re: squash not growing, leaves dying
You could have a squash vine borer, which you can't really know until the vine dies. It eats it from the inside, completely hollows the stem.
As for peppers, could be a lot of things, probably a beetle of some sort. Unless the entire leaf is gone, that could be a hornworm.
~Life After Infertility~
To check for vine borers, looks for what looks like small mounds of wet sawdust on the stem. Also, look on the leaf stems and see if there are any small reddish-brown dots. Those are the eggs.
Unfortunately, if it is vine borers, there isn't much you can do. Prevention is key for them. I had to rip out my last squash plant this morning because of the infestation.
