Show me your front yard landscaping, please...

After I have this kiddo, I want to redo our landscaping in the front yard.  This pic was taken in March and since then, I've taken out the brown fencing that I put in and the mulch has faded quite a bit.

I moved the purpleish plants on the left of the pic (the ones under the palm on the far left) to an area in the front yard to hide the crappy electrical box that the electric company didn't install correctly.

I was thinking of adding flowers and digging out all of the old mulch and putting in rocks.  I'm jealous of my next door neighbor's new landscaping, they did a lot of what I was thinking of.  I also need to completely get rid of the mulch and start from scratch because there is grass coming up in different areas of the landscaping and makes it look very messy.

Thoughts?  Any recommendations on blooming plants?  Oh, and I want to get rid of the sago palm (the little palm in front of the front door).  I HATE them.  Their thorns seriously hurt!

Re: Show me your front yard landscaping, please...

  • Here is a picture of my house, although you can't see much... I put in new flowers and added color, but now they all have gotten TOO much rain and are all dying.... even our hedges and stuff have some funky looking things on them.... I need to figure out whats going on. Our house was just finished 4 months ago so I dont think they should be doing this lol. I've put in some butterfly plants (Pentas, milkweed, gardinias, etc) and we've had a lot of butterflies around which my boys love.  My son loves to go to the garden dept and help me pick out flowers. I had sunflowers but they died.... :( I guess I dont have a green thumb :(. my house
  • I don't have a picture, but I can tell you that we did what Lane&Carter'smom did with the cement curbing around our beds.  We love it!  I'm not good with flowering plants either, so we used crotons for color (lots of red, yellow, and orange) and lantana (with yellow flowers).  There's a lot more we would like to do to the front yard, maybe after this baby gets here too.  Sorry I'm not more help.
  • I wouldn't post my front yard right now if I was paid to- I'm embarrassed that people have to drive by it. LOL! The grass is lovely, thank you Fay! But, my plants went behind my back and got crazy while I was battling late pregnancy and sleepless newborn days. Before I knew it, it was out of control and beyond saving, and too hot to do much. :( I loved it, when I had time to care for it. There should be pics in my bio or it in its early, not-quite-full days.

I'm ripping 90% of it out, when it's cool enough, and plan to put down weed barrier and blocks to make an addition to our front patio for a container garden, and replant some of my favorites in the bed. :(

We lost one of my favorite baby trees during the drought this spring, too. :(
