Throwing DH a surprise party.. need ideas

I am throwing my DH a surprise 30th birthday party, but am not sure how to "entertain" the people that show up. We live in the country, and we love to have bonfires with friends and family. Do you think the bonfire with beer and food is enough and people will mingle and entertain themselves? Or should I put out some yard games, hook up some music, etc? I am NOT good a party planner, so any help is appreciated!

  • Bonfires and beer sound good to me.  If you want some games you could do cornhole (possibly a tournament) or lawn golf.
  • Do you have speakers outside? I think adding music would be nice. Even if you dragged an ipod player out or something.

I also think it couldn't hurt to set up horse shoes, corn hole, etc. Something simple and fun. Other than that, I don't think you need anything else.

You should have s'mores though for the fire!

Totally agree.  I don't think you need to "organize" any games.  Just leave them out and it'll happen.  Sounds like fun!

  • you should have music (it can be background music so not too loud) going at the party.

Honestly, food and beer should be plenty!

If you have yard games you can always put them out.

  • Maybe you don't need games but a conversation starter is always a great idea.  You could do something that requires no management or structure and taht people can do over the course of the night whenever they get busy or something.  Like maybe:

    - An "outdoor gallery" showing your hubby through the ages for people to laugh at and reminisce about.

    - Or ask everyone to bring a photo of your hubby and have them add it to a scrapbook and write down the event or memory that goes with it.  You can supply glue dots, gel pens, stickers etc, so people can dress up their own pages.  It'll keep the kids and the adults interacting. And it'll make for a good keepsake.

    - Set up a beer tasting station featuring some unique beers (or whatever your hubby's fave alcohol is) and leave little cards for people to vote for their fave.  At the end of the night give away a case of each beer to one randomly drawn person that voted for that beer.

It helps if you are a crafty person!!!  Good luck!
