this is a long post! sorry!
I have invited 122 people - I know it's a lot, but it was all of our families, friends, and people from his work (he works for a small company, so I invited everybody). we have space in our house, a big basement, and plenty of yard space. please look at my menu and help me figure out about how much food i will need!
We have a pig roasting pit, so we will have a pig w/ small rolls and condiments
I thought I would get chicken fingers for people who dont like pork and the kids that are coming.
for sides, i have planned:
pasta salad
baked beans
green salad with simple dressing
potato salad
coleslaw
chips and dip
birthday cake with fruit and smores for the fire later in the night.
does that seem like enough food?
i planned to have a few games set up - like cornhole and some games for the kids.
how many people should i plan all of the sides to serve, considering not everybody will eat everything? 50? 75 servings? 100? im keeping in mind that rsvps arent due until the end of july, so that would shift my numbers. i'm just trying to figure a roundabout percentage. thank you!
Re: I am ALSO throwing my husband a surprise 30th bday party...please critque!
So you didn't mention times of party or ages. Assuming everyone who comes are adults.... decrease below to account for children
- for the pasta salad & potato salad, I'd probably plan to have enough for 50-60% of the guest list, each (for a total of 100-120% between the two). then maybe another 40% for the coleslaw
- I don't eat baked beans and have never made them, so can't really say
- I find that salad doesn't go at BBQs, so I'd probably plan for less of that, or do a grilled or cold veggie salad
- for the chips and dip, if you'll have this out before everything else is ready, I'd do 75%. if at the same time as the meal, maybe 50%
- dessert... in addition to the cake, fruit, and smores.... I'd add a batch or two of cookies.
With the above, you'll probably end up having leftovers, but better safe than sorry. Are you making all of the food or having it catered?
It's tough to say how much you should make since you don't have RSVPs in yet.
