Beer Tasting & Cook Out Ideas

H started brewing his own beer and we thought it would be a great excuse to have some friends over to try it.  There will be about 10 people, we will do the beer tasting and cook out.

Does anyone have any ideas for decorations?  What about party favors?  Menu?  Centerpieces?

We were thinking, since it is a beer party, a little beer pong would be fun.

Any cute ideas you have would be appreciated!!

  •  A party favor I have done is to buy those beers mugs and get your guests name engraved on it. That way they can use them at your party and then take them home to use for personal use!

Do you need centerpieces if you're playing beer pong?

Menu--hmmm what goes well with a beer? Burgers, Wings, and pizza for me!

  • I don't think you need favors at all for a party like this.  I typically only think favors are for weddings and showers.

I also agree you don't really need much decor... but you could always use beer bottles from nicer beers and put fresh flowers in them in a couple of places or stick fresh flowers in a 6-pack holder... although without water I'm not sure how long they will last.

Has your H brewed a few different types?  You could put food out at stations near that kind of beer to suggest a pairing.  For food I would do burgers, brats, maybe some homemade sweet potatoes fries with rosemary and sea salt and a homemade slaw with a more vinagrette base dressing rather than mayo.  Or homemade soft pretzals would be fun too with some dipping sauces as an app!  I love those at bars!

Beer pong is always fun but if you're playing, I would have some cheap, light beer to use with the game (like bud light, miller light, etc.)  I have friends that brew beer and it is a more darker, flavorful beer... I prefer something lighter for the drinking games.

    Sounds like a fun party!

  • Mmmmm cool idea...I think you could have a snack tray with different cheese, meats and veggies, chips and a few dips (onion, ranch and maybe hummus or something), brats, wings and maybe pizza would be perfect for a beer tasting. For sides maybe baked beans or green beans (or both, haha) and potato salad...I dunno.

I don't know if you really need favors or centerpieces, maybe you could have some buckets of ice with mugs or something like that though...something beerish, lol

Beer pong's a great idea plus you could do cornhole, that's always fun.

  • Just wanted to say i'd LOVE to be invited to this...sounds fun!

  • Love all the ideas!!  Thanks for the tips!

    Consider yourself invited ;o)

  • What about all food made with beer? I've made some great guinness cupcakes, beer can chicken, beer brats, etc. Maybe it's too much, but I like themes - go big or go home!

As far as "centerpieces", DH sent me flowers before I thought were super fun and easy to replicate: http://ww10.1800flowers.com/product.do?baseCode=16341&conversionTag=true

You read my mind.  I think we have decided on beer can chicken.

I love the flowers - very cute!  Thanks so much!
