Critique my menu!

For lunch following DD's Christening

Assortment of wraps, Tortellini salad (with ham), cucumber salad, broc. salad, bean salad, chicken tenders (mostly for kids) and ? I want to serve mostly cold dishes so nothing will need to be heated after church.Too many salads?  What am I missing? TIA!

Re: Critique my menu!

  • I would probably choose between the broccoli or cucumber.  Nothing wrong with serving both, though.

I wouldn't count on the chicken tenders being "mostly for kids" unless you put a sign out.  Plenty of adults love them, and they'd be heartier than a wrap, so many adults might go for them.

I assume somewhere in there you have cake, cookies or cupcakes planned.

  • Oh, yes for dessert; cake, fruit salad , and maybe a trifle.
  • Hmmm sounds to me like other than the chicken tenders there's no real 'main dish' if you will. What if you had chicken or tuna salad, something like that? Or you could do meatballs and have them in a crockpot so you don't have to heat/reheat them.

The wraps are a 'main dish' as are the tenders for the kids.  I agree....I'd do either a broccoli salad or cuc salad, but like pp said, it doesn't matter if you do both.  I might also have some chips and dip or pretzels...something for people to grab and eat with the wraps other than just salads.  I think it sounds fine....simple, but easy and good!  Also, I agree with pp in the tenders will get eaten by adults too (I know I'd grab 1 or 2 along with my wrap)!

  • Ditto Martini.  One other thing, though.  Have something that's vegetarian-friendly.  Speaking from experience, I hate going somewhere and the only things I can eat are an assortment of sides.  You could do a Mediterranean wrap with grilled eggplant, pesto, goat cheese, etc., just for an idea.

Oh durrr, how'd I miss the wraps? Oops hehe

  • I agree with pp about something grab and go.  Everything you have requires a plate balancing act which is fine for the meal but people like snacks before after making a plate.  Chips, veggies, crackers or pita points with appropriate dips would be perfect.
  • Fruit platter with yogurt dip? Summer berries are in season, would make a light grab and go.

    Everything else sounds yummy!

  • Thats a lot of salads going on there! Wraps are a great idea! I think that you should make the chicken tenders and adult or kids thing...for the adults you can put them on little wood skewers and make a more elegant dipping sauce for them. Here is what I would suggest:

    Assorted Wraps

Tortellini Salad (without ham to be vegetarian)

    Veggie Tray with dips

Chicken Tenders on Skewers with dipping sauces

Hope this helps and good luck!
