earth muffin- i have a wad

so i picked up a learn-to-knit kit from joann fabrics.  i have been using some of those you tube videos that make it look sooooo easy and so far i have a big knot :-P

DH came in from cutting the grass, so i told him "i hate knitting" so he laughed at me and said it probably takes more than 20 minutes to learn and that pouting wont help.  but i disagree.  pouting helps a lot

Re: earth muffin- i have a wad

  • Honestly, I had the hardest time until my mom showed me.. you may want to try going to a knitting shop and see if you can get a quick lesson and see it from all angles. If you wanna meet up sometime I can try and show you but I am not known for my teaching ability as it relates to yarn craft but I'm up to help you out... just have to work around my nutty schedule... Once you get it you'll laugh at yourself.. promise!
  • ok so i kinda get it, i'm at least getting things that resemble knitted objects :)

why is it that the middle of the row is so mugh tighter than the ends, like i can barely get the needle thru the loops in the center its too tight.  i did something wrong didnt i?

  • I was having the same problem.. you may be pulling harder and making tighter loops in the middle (I have that problem after I cast on). Just keep thing nice and loose and you can always pull the piece as you work it to even out the rows, etc... just nice and light... I found practicing with larger needles and thicker yarn helped me when I first started to see my mistakes and keep things loose... you don't want it too loose obviously but you will find the sweet spot the more you practice. GL!
