Photo Scanning Service?

I figured you guys would have experience with photo scanning services...I'm wanting to convert all of my photos to digital format.

Do you have a recommendation for a service? One that is reasonably priced? I haven't counted how many photos I have but I would say it's 4 tightly packed shoeboxes worth (how's that for accurate?).

Re: Photo Scanning Service?

  • I've had great luck with Scan Cafe www.scancafe.com  You prepay for half of your estimated amount of pics (it is ok if you are wrong on your count).  Then you ship them to Cali, they ship them to India and scan them.  They put them online and then you can review the scans and throw out up to half of what they scanned and not pay for them (so no need to go through and review prior to scanning).  I am not sure how competitive they are at this point in time.  Last time I used them was about 4 mos ago and their prices were great comparatively but they have increased prices since then.

  • I really didn't want my photos sent to India. I used a local service: Picture This! in Austin, Texas www.picturethisaustin.com. They scanned everything in, organized it by folder, and even retouched some photos that had faded to the ugly brown/red tint. I'm doing all my videos with them next.
