Hey everyone!!
So, I'm moving from NorCal to Nashville (yay!). The NorCal board is super busy and frequented... and this one, not so much. What's up with that? So here's my attempt at conversation.
I'm Lindsay. Grew up in MA but moved to CA after college to teach. Taught out there for the past three years and got married in April. A little over a week ago, my husband, my dog, and myself hopped in the car and drove across the country. We're in CT for a few weeks and then coming to Nashville for both of us to start programs at Vanderbilt. My aunt bought a house in Nashville and we're renting it from her for the next two years. The house is adorable, but I'm not so positive about the area. But I'm sure it'll be nice to not live in a small apartment.
I taught fifth grade last year and so I've read the Percy Jackson books. We watched the Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief movie last night and I was surprised that they took out the book's part about St. Louis and the arch and instead put in Nashville's Parthenon.
Who are you? What do you do? Have y'all lived in Nashville for a while or are you a new transplant? What are you doing this summer? What's your favorite thing about Nashville? Etc etc.
Re: what's up with the board? :)
I'm guessing part of the problem with this board is that it's for the whole state so the difference between me and you is about 5 hours and a time zone. Since I joined over a year ago (this is my 2nd screenname) this board has never been very lively. I think Nashville probably has the most amount of people that visit this board though.
I hope you like Tennessee Weather-wise I think it's the best place to live. I'm an administrative assistant. I moved here from FL 3 years ago. I live in Northeast TN. Our big summer trip this year was camping in WV. I'm sure we'll go to some more local places once it cools off. My favorite thing about where I live is the hiking. I wish we did it more than we do.
Miles (6 year old Maine C00n mix), Boots (5 year old Lab mix), Darla (4 year old GSD/Collie mix), Frankie (1.5 year old DSH mix), Peanut (15 months old - 09/11), and Bean (arriving Feb 2013).
The action on this board comes and goes in spurts(as in months at a time), but I def. would never call it lively. I'm originally form the DC area, a transplant as of 3 years ago. I'd say most of the responses on here are from the mid-state region, but who knows?!
Even though we aren't on here all that often, I'd say this board is helpful and friendly, and when you do have a question, at least someone will try to respond. I'm in a suburb of Nashville, but get there fairly often and will do my best to help you out!
This summer is full of studying for me as I've recently gone back to add on my teacher's certification.
My favorite thing about Nashville- the people.
Nashville is a great place to live! My husband and I moved here last year from Atlanta and just bought a house in Franklin and we love it. I teach high school in Rutherford Co. and really like working in that school system. Williamson Co. has great schools too...if you decide to stay in the area and continue to teach.
If you like coffee, check out Fido in Hillsboro Village and Bongo Java across from Belmont. They are the same company but two different shops and they are great. We like to go there for coffee, bagels, and relaxing! Both are really close to Vandy if your house is in that area.
Hope you enjoy it here!!
Sometimes I forget this board even exists. I agree that since it's for the whole state sometimes it's hard to ask/answer questions about areas I've never even visited.
I moved to Nashville from PA in 2002. I met my husband and have gotten married since living here. My favorite thing is definitely the weather. I was tired of 6 months of snow. I think Nashville has something for everyone if you make an effort to seek out activities you are into.

Agreed on the lack of activity on the board. But that it is helpful if you have time to wait for a question to be answered.
I'm Jen. Originally from the Nashville area. Moved away for college, came back and then moved away for 3 years. Been back since 2003 and really love it. My husband, daughter, dog and I live in the 12south neighborhood and love being close to everything. We both work right off of West End so it is convenient and a really short commute. My favorite things about Nashville are the people, the weather and the small town in a city feel. All of the neighborhoods have such unique characteristics to them and I think its a great place to raise kids.
Good luck to you!
This board does tend to be pretty dead. Several of us hang out on MM.
I moved to Nashville 7 years ago right before my DH and I got engaged. Before that I was in Atlanta, though I grew up in the DC area. We live in Bellevue and I love it here. I work in Cool Springs. My parents moved to Franklin from the DC area last year and so far they love it, too.
Some of my favorite Nashville things - the people, the slower pace (compared to other cities where I lived), lack of bad traffic. I love how you can be in the midst of suburbia or even downtown, and in minutes be in the countryside driving by horses in a field or seeing wild turkeys, deer, etc. It's big enough to have most (though not all) the conveniences of a big city without being overwhelming.
