Can you read on an ipad outside? I want a Kindle but was thinking if I bought the ipad it would also serve as my Kindle. My only concern is that I can't read it outside like at the beach or on my back deck. I know normal computers are impossible to see outside
Re: reading on an ipad...
Not at all a response to your question, but we were playing around with an iPad in the Apple Store today and remarked just how *heavy* the darn thing is. I would not be able to hold this in my hands unsupported for very long. Have you felt the two?
Since the iPad screen is glossy, I would imagine the matte Kindle screen would be much better for outside reading.
I can read mine outside in the shade, but definitely not in full sun. You can "see" what's on the screen, but reading through the glare would cause some serious eye strain.
I usually read with a pillow on my lap propping the phone up, or with the case on so it supports itself at a comfortable angle. I'm never just holding it up with my hand for very long.

I have both, and I have to say that the Kindle is the superior reading experience . . .
I can't read on my iPad outside at ALL - even with the brightness turned way down, the glare is overwhelming. Also, as mentioned by PP, it is VERY heavy. My arm gets tired after holding it for long amounts of time. The Kindle is light enough that (when in its cover), I can hold it like a regular book, which is really nice.
This isn't to say that I don't love my iPad, because I do (and I do read on it indoors), but for solely reading, the Kindle is better IMO.
