Re: Apartment/condo/house or townhouse to rent
Start looking now. Just FYI. People down here in general are not very dog friendly unless it is a little yappy thing. DH and I had a time trying to find a place that would take a 70lb yellow lab, the breed is going to be an issue as well (just a head up).
I would visit before you decide where to move. There are little no districting patterns in S.Fla.
You could be in a million dollar house on one side of the street and a ghetto on the other.
~JMHO though~ We just moved down here about a year ago from ATL and just moved again from Jupiter to Delray. All I can say is good look at everything and ask lots of questions. GL.
He's my fairytale, a dream when I'm not sleeping.
<a href="http://s279.photobucket.com/albums/kk121/behapybride/?action=viewWe have a condo that is going to be up for rent in about a month in plantation. It is a very dog friendly community, I have two large dogs my self. There are quite a few places here in plantation that are dog friendly. There are two dogs parks close by as well. Let me know if you need more names of developments.
Welcome!
First step, get a realtor. Like someone else mentioned, you don't pay them so it can't hurt to have them look as well. You will probably have a hard time with a dog that size, but Broward is a bit more accepting of breeds that are considered risky (for example, pit bulls are legal in Broward, not in Miami-Dade). However private communities sometimes restrict certain breeds, including rottweilers.
ITA with the suggestion to get a realtor, if you are looking for Palm Beach County, let me know and I know some great people to connect you with. I would start there, I also like hotpads.com, but with the dog its going to be hard, i have 2 big dogs and its always difficult to find a rental.
GL!
I agree with getting a realtor, not only will they help you find something, but it eliminates a lot stress as well to have someone else work out the appointments to view places, negotiations, paperwork, etc.
Depending on your budget you may want to look into renting a house, that way the dog won't be an issue. I think most places everywhere have issues with dogs over 25 pounds, but I'm sure you can find something.
Most rental communities will accept up to 2 pets with a combined weight limit of 75lbs (some strech to 100 lbs). Most also have breed restriction lists which include pit bulls, german shepards, mastifs...etc. Your best bet is to find a privatley owned rental since they don't usually have to worry about hold harmless agreements or other liability issues. Like everyone else said, finding a realtor is best since they are very familiar with the pet policies of the rental communities as well as private rentals. GL!
