Pool time!! :)

Hi! :) I'm pretty new to TN. We just got married a few weeks ago, and I go on my 'anniversary' board on TN, but haven't posted on any others yet.

But my husband and I are thinking about getting a pool. We have plenty of space in our empty desert backyard for it, and after spending yesterday at our friend's place using the pool on and off all day, he's 'surprised' how much he liked it. :) I knew I would all along! (When I used to live at apt complexes here in AZ, I always had a pool!)

So I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for companies, ones to stay away from, opinions of pool types/materials/etc. I'll probably call within the next few days for estimates from a few places, but to be honest, we know nothing about pool-buying!! TIA for any help! :)

Re: Pool time!! :)

  • Our pool is by Presidential Pools and I have no complaints.  The previous owners had it installed, but we haven't had any problems with it at all.  Our pool is fairly basic, but my parents had Presidential do a custom negative edge pool with a spa that turned out absolutely gorgeous, so they can definately do a large range of pools!

  • Congrats on your wedding and new marriage!  I don't have a pool, but sooo want one for our next house.  My mom has a salt water pool and I looove it!  It doesn't seem as "chemically chlorine" as some others I've been to.  Also she has one that has little "popups" to help with the self cleaning of the pool and it  seems to do a pretty good job. Happy pool hunting! enjoy newlywed life!

  • Thanks for all the welcomes ladies! :-D As for the pool, we definitely wanna go with salt water. The friend's pool we chilled at was a salt water pool, and it was sooo much nicer for our skin! (and I'm sure the environment??)

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here too. :) Is everyone on the board spread out around the valley?

  • yea for the most part we are all spread out... we have one girl who is in Tucson and then myself a couple others live in Surprise, we have a girl or maybe two up in Fountain Hills and then a good majority are in Gilbert,Chandler, Phoenix, and Glendale =)  But we have GTG so we can all hang out and have some girl time =)

  • Hello and welcome : ) Congrats on your marriage this board is super awesome!! So about your pool needs or needs to be. I don't really have a rec but I do have a pool and love it. We had some issues with it earlier this year and had shasta come give us a quote for a re model and it was around $10,000. Then we found someone who owns their own business to do it for around $3500 if we wait until winter when their business slows down. Shasta also told us our filter was broken and it would be $5000 to replace it with a new one, but my DH who is mr fix-it lol did some research and found out it was something simple and fixed it for less then $100. So basically I wouldn't use them :) I think its best whoever you choose to go with to have them do it in the fall so you get the better rates.
