Routers, modems, comcast

We have comcast for internet and cable. We tried hooking up our wireless router from Linsys or whatever it is when we first got it and it was always kicking Mike off internet if I would try to get one after he had been on. So we took it off and I have be able to connect to internet just fine without using the router. Now I am having problems and most of the time I cannot access the internet now. We tried hooking up the router again last night but it wasn't connecting, etc. So SOL. I am thinking about getting another router other than Linksys   maybe Dlink. Or does comcast have a modem that is both a modem and a router? Let me know what you all know or think.

Re: Routers, modems, comcast

  • Have you called Comcast or the router manufacturer and asked for assistance?  Alternatively, search online for compatibility issues with the specific cable modem provided by Comcast.  We found ours was not compatible with one of our two wireless routers.  Regarding the issues you're having, it's not obvious what you mean by one of you getting kicked off the internet after the other uses it.  Does that mean that one computer is successfully able to access the wireless network while another isn't?  Is a wireless signal being broadcast constantly or is it cutting out?

I'm not exactly sure but I know that we have a comcast router and a wireless router. Dh said something about turning off wireless on the comcast one (or something like that) in order to make our other router route properly.

Sorry, I'm not much help. Dh is the tech geek not me.

  • Thanks for the tips. I went out and got a Belkin router last night. Hubby installed and we are working now :)
