Need to find the "jaw-dropping" facts!

Hi Ladies!! I lurk around here pretty often and you ladies have been such a wealth of knowledge and inspiration!

I'm in the process of researching for a persuasive speech topic. My thesis will persuade to choose organic or local vs. conventional and I'm looking for websites or other resources where I can find some raw harsh facts about conventional foods and the process.

Any of you know of any great sites/blogs, etc. that may be helpful? Or do you know of any "jaw-dropping" facts that you may share with a conventional eater?

For jaw dropping footage on the meat industry, check out the documentary Earthlings. It's broken up into four segments (pets, food, fashion and entertainment). The second segment deals with food. It is seriously unbelievable. If it doesn't make you go vegetarian/vegan, it will make you rethink your meat source.

I 3rd the Earthlings thing.  No one will ever forget your speech, that is for sure!  And be sure to stress that you are talking about the meat, eggs, and milk that they get at their grocery store. I think sometimes at first people think industrialized meat is only for fast food restaurants, but it's not.

Also I have to recommend the book "Seeds of Deception" for GMO's. I could go on and on about GMO's and how unbelievable it is that they are in our food supply at all. That's all I can say without making this into a million word post. Supergreen is a lot better at the GMO verbage.

 I went to Amazon to order this, but then I read some of the reviews and some of them were saying that the scientific information is inaccurate.  So then I was torn. I believe GMOs are bad, but I want to make sure I'm reading the facts.  Do you feel the information was accurate?

::snort:: I wonder exactly who was "reviewing" the book. Monsanto's minions would be my guess.

They weren't pulling this stuff out of their ass. There were plenty of scientists, documents, reports etc. etc. used in the book. What exactly were they saying was inaccurate I wonder?

Wow. I wish I wouldn't have watched that trailer. I am in tears and my stomach is turning.
