My husband and I are moving to St Louis in a few weeks and are thinking about buying a home. What are your all's opinions on the Tower Grove Park area? What are some likes/dislikes about this area?? My husband grew up in St Louis and he wants to live in this area but i dont know much about the area except for one trip to look. ( we also looked at U City and Soulard) Thanks!

That area has some beautiful old homes, is within walking distance of Tower Grove Park, Botanical Gardens and the South Grand neighborhood, an eclectic area full of excellent Asian restaurants. It's centrally located, close to two interstates (44 and 64) and definitely a YOUNG place to live.
On the downside, like many places in St. Louis City, crime rates fluctuate block-by-block. I know a few people who live in that area and LOVE it and would never hesitate to raise a family in the area. But I too live in a similar neighborhood where car break ins are not uncommon and violent crimes have occurred just minutes from my home, despite my living on a "safe block." In my opinion, I want a safer area for my family and am very eager to move out of here, but that is not to say that Tower Grove could not be a GREAT place to live. You just have to way your options. (And I would definitely recommend an alarm system just in case!)
Good luck with the move!
I live in Tower Grove South and really really love it. (Tower Grove East is even more a mix of good and bad areas with some $600k homes right next to rundown multi-families) It is close to a major park with the best farmer's market on Saturdays and close to lots of good restuarants. Most of the houses were built in the 1900-1940s, and are brick bungalows or bigger brick 2 stories with small city lots. Coming from a small town, I was very happy to see that my neighbors were very friendly and we hang out together often.
Compared to UCity and Soulard, TGS is a nice combination of young couples and families. I think UCity is mostly family driven (very nice area too! My sister lives there) and Soulard is a lot of young people in apartments. In Soulard you have to deal with Mardi Gras in the spring (fun to visit, but not live through) and Oktoberfest in the fall.
