Ahhh! I am getting frustrated!!! I graduated with a bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education. I knew it would be hard to find a job and right now I am working at a daycare... blah. I worked at a daycare all through college and I am SOOO over it! I dont make much at all!! At what point do I say enough is enough and find a job in another area to make more money? I just really dont know what to do!! Any advise, help? JOBS? LOL

thanks for letting me rant!!!

Re: Help

  • There are lots of teacher mom's on the baby board-try over there!  I have a history degree so I'm never going to make lots of $$ unless I switch fields-I feel your pain!!

  • The job market for ECE majors is unbelievably tight.

This site posts job listings (that's all I'd use it for) http://www.effronassociates.com/index.asp and once in a while one comes up for your field.  There's also ohioteachingjobs.org and postings on ODE's website.  Be willing to work in less desirable jobs- they'll at least get you experience.  You never know, you may like it!  Also, have you looked into KY or IN?  I know some folks who have had more luck there.

If you still don't have a job come August, I'd get your name on a few sub lists for districts near your home.  Be willing to work any grade level, do a good job, and maybe you'll land a long term sub job that could lead to a fulltime position.  It's not the best, but you can at least get your foot in the door.  I think sub pay in my district is around $88/day.  The more consecutive days you work, the more money you can make (up to a first year teacher's salary).

The other thing you could do is go and get a supplement to your license- whether it be a reading or math specialist, or special ed.  Anything that makes you more marketable could help you get your foot in the door.  It's a really tough market right now.  Try to stay positive that something will come your way.  GL!
