holes in pots?

Hello everyone!  I lurk once in a while, but now that I'm on summer vacation I'm ready to tackle my backyard big time!  I found some pretty pots at Home Goods recently to go near my red wrought iron bench, but they don't have holes in the bottom.

I'd love for them to drain out of the bottom, but I'm afraid if I try poking holes in the ceramic that they'll just break.  Has anyone ever tried this?

Re: holes in pots?

  • You need a power drill and ceramic bit to put holes in the bottom of the pot.

  • If the pots are fairly large, you can also put a layer of gravel on the bottom and then fill with dirt.

Also put a piece of duct tape down first, over the place where you are going to drill the hole, and drill thru the duct tape. This helps to keep the pot from cracking and chipping.
