30th bday for DH - NOT a surprise
We do a party every year to celebrate the summer and my hubby's bday. This year he is turning 30, so I want to do something special, and "extra" to make it a little different/more exciting than the same ol' thing we do every year (cookout and keg basically). I can't make it a surprise party due to his work schedule, he has to take the day off for the party. Any thoughts on what I can do to have a small surprise here and there, or to make it extra special for him? TIA!

Re: 30th bday for DH - NOT a surprise
For my DH's 30th, I rented a bar out and threw him a cocktail party. Because it was a friend's bar, they didn't charge much for renting it out. There were appetizers and a cake along with whatever drinks people wanted. It seemed to work out great!
Or - do a themed party. Luau, 80's night, disco fever, whatever you want and spice up a house party that way.
I plan on hiring a band for H's 30th next year, but if that's not in the budget, I'd go with a theme. Luau's are always fun. We had one a couple of years ago and everyone had a blast. We hired someone to do all the food including the pig roast.
I bought cups made from real coconuts and served mai tais and blue hawaiians in them.
For my DH's 30th I made him a photo album from birth up until about two months prior to bday.
Can you get pics of him through out the years and maybe make a big poster of them, or put them in frames through out the house and yard?
You could even take a baby pic and a current pic and have them printed on that edible paper on top of the cake.
My little nuggets
I am doing the same thing for my DH next month.
