We want to do something that is close to St. Louis (less than a 2 hour dirve) that would be fun and different. We arent big foodies or much into drinking. We went to a winery a couple weekends ago and it seemed overrated....any other ideas?
Re: Romantic Weekend?
You should go to a bed and breakfast in Hannibal or Clarksville. In Hannibal you can eat good food, visit the Mark Twain museum and boyhood home, catch a AAA baseball game, and stroll the riverfront. It is like stepping back into time!
Garth Mansion B&B or
Reagan's Queen AnneMy husband and I went to Hermann, MO last February and stayed in a B&B. It was FANTASTIC! We relaxed in our jacuzzi, spent the day visiting wineries, and ate great food. Even if you're not into wineries, there are many excellent food stops, a brewery, historical tours of the town, and festivals quite frequently during the summer months.
We stayed at the Wine Valley Inn in Downtown Hermann, but I had also looked at Hermann Hill, as two friends of mine raved about it to me. On Valentine's Day weekend, it was a bit out of our price range, but I would totally consider it for the future.
Forrest Park. Between the Muny, the Zoo, the Butterfly House and the Science Center, you can easily kill a few days exploring.
Also, a short drive from St. Louis is the Meramec Caverns State Park. It's a scenic drive through the park and even if you're not a huge outdoor buff, it's worth a walk through the Visitor's Center and a tour through the cave itself (which has lighted, paved walkways). If you're really feeling adventurous, there's tons of trips on the river, hiking, spelunking, and, as of this past year, zip-lining that can also keep you coming back for more. HTH
