1st anniversary dinner & gift

DH mentioned last night that he's taking me out in a couple weeks for our first anniversary.  Perhaps we'll ventura down to LA for something to eat.He brought up maybe going to Lawry's, one of our favorites.I'm also wondering if anyone's ever been to Il Cielo, or has any other ideas of places that are well suited for an anniversary. On another night I'm planning on making him something nice for din din and I'll serve it on our wedding china. What did everyone get for their hubs on their first anniversary?  I'm drawing a blank.

Re: 1st anniversary dinner & gift

  • I'm a just a newlywed so I'm no use!  I love the idea of of making dinner and serving it on your wedding china.
    Life's a beach!
  • Our first anniversary is coming up August  7 and we haven't talked about it so I have no idea what to get him.  A long time ago he had mentioned doing the gifts by years and I believe the theme for the first anniversary is paper?  So I guess maybe something relating to paper.

  • Our first anniversary is next month and we decided we would take a trip to Vegas. Our gift to ourselves is the trip and we got tickets to see Bob Saget while we're there. We figure the tickets count as paper.

  • Someone on the June 09 forum posted this as an idea for her husband and I totally stole it: http://heatherdrive.blogspot.com/2009/09/world-is-ours.html . We travel a lot, so I think it's pretty awesome to have it mapped out and we can keep adding to it! He bought me concert tickets. Smile
  • We went to Palm Springs for the weekend for our first anniversary.

We also did the "paper" gift - I got him a vintage poster, and he sketched a picture from our honeymoon in charcoal, then framed it.

  • I did a modern "paper" gift.  I got him an ipad : )

and Il Cielo is hit or miss.  If you like I can recommend a zillion restaurants for you

  • Happy anniversary in advance!

On our first anniversary, we had dinner at the Castaway in Burbank because that was where our reception was held.

For my gift to DH, I went somewhat traditional with paper.  I ordered fortune cookies with customized fortunes - "I love you," "Happy Anniversary!", etc.

If you decide to go to Lawry's, definitely make reservations.

  • Thank you for the suggestions everyone!  DH already made a reservation for Lawry's so I'm excited!  He said he felt a little bad that he didn't just surprise me.  Oh well...

  • Wow, I can't believe it's already been a year since you got married!  Have a great dinner.
  • Oh my goodness, for our first anniversary I remember being super stressed out because I had to miss classes, and I never ditch...

Because it was so stressful, I hardly remember it, bummer, isn't it?

I know I did cute lingerie, there's a gift that can never go wrong...  I'm already planning our second!!  :]

Though this time I'll have to miss a day of student teaching and possibly class, my, my!

My husband is easy to shop for though, he loves video games, so anything, and I  mean ANYTHING related to that, and he swoons!  :]

Think about his favorite hobby, and try to get creative...

When I realized that video games extends into clothing and such, I had way more gifts to start buying :]

  • Come to think of it, we might have gone back to San Diego for the weekend, which is where we honeymooned, but just for the night I believe?  I'll have to ask my husband tomorrow, now I'm wondering!!  :]

  • We spent the day in Santa Monica and then drove down PCH and went to Duke's in Huntington Beach for dinner and booked a room at the Hilton there. Alex proposed to me at the Duke's in Waikiki so that is why he chose there. For gifts we followed the tradition of paper; he made me a giant picture collage on canvas of pictures from our first year dating and married. I got him an anniversary journal where we can record every anniversary along with important events of our first year as husband and wife.
