Re: My Square Foot Garden

  • it looks great!  Love that you didn't grid around the zucchini, very smart as my grid is messing with my plant.  My SIL gave me a great tip, you can cut off some of the leaves on the zukes and the green beans, makes the garden feel less cluttered and it is easier to get to the veggies!

  • What a FANTASTIC garden! It looks great and it's wonderfully organized!

I seriously had no idea zukes could be so big. Wowsers!

  • zukes are crazy, you are supposed to allot 9 squares for them!  And mine is pushing beyond that most definitely.

  • Thanks!   I didn't know about the zucchini, either.  It's huge!  I didn't know about removing the leaves- I'll have to try that.  And the beans- they are falling outside their grid.

This is the first garden I've had, and I'm really enjoying it!

  • Looks great, thanks for sharing!  How did you decide what to put in the higher raised portion, and what to keep down low?

I had my husband build the higher portion for the carrots.  When I planted the carrots I just decided to put the lettuce there as well since they are both cool weather crops.  I ended up putting the butternut squash there so that there was a break in the vertical trellis (between the squash and pumpkins) so that I could have an easier time accessing the crops on that side.

That being said, next year I"m going to rearrange some crops.  The beans are taller than I expected and are blocking some sun from my banana pepper.  And the shade cover for the lettuce is blocking some sun from the carrots, so I am going to rotate the lettuce.

YesYes I usually find crop gardens so unkempt and ugly, but not this one. Very nice. Well done.
