Long weekend in Chicago ...

Hi ladies, we are going to be in Chicago for an adults-only long weekend. We are doing a baseball game Sunday evening and staying at the Hard Rock Hotel. Please suggest any fun things for us to do .. . we are into good food (nothing toooo expensive), beer (craft/unusual brews are fun too), shopping . . .basically I have been slacking on my 'research' for this mini-vacation, and now it's fast approaching ! Thanks for any insight :)

Oh, also we will not have a car  - we are flying in, and will need transportation to/ hotel. Do you suggest we pay ~$30 each for a shuttle or take a cab? Or do you have another suggestion? Thanks again.

Re: Long weekend in Chicago ...

  • Take the el from the airport.  orange line from midway or blue line from ohare.  It's like $2 a person and super easy.
  • I agree with pp and take the elevated train from the airport.  cta.com, I believe.

metromix . com is also a great planning site.

     Popular Tourist things:

Navy Pier---catch fireworks on Saturday or Wed. night

Boat ride from Navy Pier is fun too

We have lots of great theaters here. Catch a show!  Second City (improv) is popular, but so is Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind.  Another popular one is Blue Man Group

I'm sure you've heard of Michigan Ave shopping to Water Tower Place shopping. You can go to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch!  YUM!

Pizza is a must here.  Lots of debates on the best, but a few of the popular ones include: Gino's East, Giordanos, or Uno.

We're also known for our museums, if you're into that.  Happy travels!

  • Pizza: Lou Malnati's

Drinks with a view: Signature Lounge, top of Hancock Building...free to get up, though there might be a line, and you don't have to pay for a ticket to the observatory deck...ladies bathroom has a great view, haha.

Shopping: you don't find H&M just anywhere ;-)  If you are into their clothing.

Architecture boat tour is cool. I recommend the double decker bus tour if you are into touristy things, you learn a ton and can hop on and off throughout downtown all day.  ~$25.

Obnoxious overpriced rude service but famous lunch: Billygoat Tavern

Lots of street fests always going on, like PP said, metromix.com.
