Cleveland is going to implode
ESPN is reporting that LeBron will sign with the Heat. It makes me kind of sad because it would be a great story if the hometown hero stayed with his hometown team. But then again, I'm sure it's hard to turn down a deal that puts you on a team with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.
Sources say LeBron had concerns about signing a six-year deal with the Cavs and ending up "31
years old, with bad knees and no title."
Re: Cleveland is going to implode
I am a sports board lurker but I wanted to offer my two cents....
Lebron has a huge ego. Let's say he goes to Miami with Bosch and Wade and they win a title.....it seems to me like it would be a bruise to his ego that he has to have Bosch and Wade to help him win the title. Does that make sense?
That makes sense, but I think at this point he wants a title any way he can get it. It's not like Kobe got his championships alone (at least not the first three when Shaq was a Laker).
Yes, but Kobe didn't go team shopping for a championship either. And that is what Lebron is doing.
He didn't have to, the lakers had a supporting cast that complemented kobe, the cavs do not
no, this makes no sense to me. do you watch basketball or professional sports?! show me a player that doesn't have a huge ego. bball players know that they can not win a ring by themselves, they want to align themselves with the right teammates to help them get there.
I told my husband, "I feel bad for Cleveland. LeBron was the only good thing about that city, and now he's leaving."
My husband's reply: "The Cleveland Clinic is pretty good too."
LOL
Wade, Bosh, Durant, none of them have acted like Lebron when it came to contract negotations. I guarantee you - IF he wins a championship at Miami - the media will be all over how he 'team shopped' to win a championship. Look at the media today - already he is the "bad guy" when just two days ago he was the media darling. Any championship he wins will be clouded with the fact that he team shopped. Yes, they want to align themselves with the "right" players to win a championship - but the way he has acted the past few weeks - in the long-term he has screwed himself. He will either be the guy that team shopped to win a championship or the idiot that team shopped and STILL couldn't win a championship.
Yup. I'm with stripesandspots here. FINALLY - someone put into words what I was trying to put into words last night.
The whole media thing was ridiculous. I think Cleveland deserved to find out another way, not on national television. This whole free agency thing has been a stupid circus that I'm glad is finally over. I know the NBA is a business and all, but none of the other stars shopped around for a ring. They got help, they worked with what they had, and they won.
Part of me thinks that everyone expects Miami to win a ring next year. And if they don't...LeBron's gonna get smeared even more. The way he handled the whole thing makes me really not like him right now.
I would also like to point out that this time next year when a Lock Out is imminent this LeBron James thing is going to be replayed over and over and over again in the media - not good for the league or for the players.
While I agree that the media circus surrounding this was ridiculous, I think that LeBron did what was best for his career. Clevland brought in Shaq (who even stated when he came to Clevland he was going to help get a ring for the King), but that turned out to be a big flop. They try to bring in Izzo as head coach and that obviously didn't work out. What did Gilbert and everyone else in Clevland think he was going to do? Stay because it's his hometown and he shouldn't let down the city?
The guy knows he'll probably go down as one of the greatest basketball players, but he doesn't want to be known as a great basketball player that didn't win a championship during his time in the NBA. He's the only one that can ruin his career.
ETA: Athletes in other sports have shopped around for rings, so why the big fuss now?
Hi I never post here, but I am from Cleveland, so this caught my attention.
While I am upset about the situation, it will kill the economy in Cleveland, and it's sad for those of us who have followed Lebron since he was in high school. But, as someone pointed out to me, it is the smartest career move he could have made, and I have to respect him for not giving in to the pressure to stay.
That being said.... Go ...Browns?
H & I drove by his house the night he made his "Decision"...we were hoping to get on the news. We didn't. lol
that whole hour special was a circus, really, can't you just call a press conference? don't say it's for charity, nice way to hide behind that!
DH & i are curious to how James will be come next postseason...we both think he never showed up in Cleveland's postseason....he was on during the season, but then disappeared during the playoffs.....so if there's anyone to blame, he needs to look in the mirror....
I can't wait for the Celtics to beat him again in the playoffs
he quit on his team in the playoffs this year. the team had the BEST record in the NBA. if you can get that many wins , you should be able to win a ring. don't even get me started on how he refused to shake hands with anyone after his loss to the Magic last year. he is and always will be a egomaniacal baby.
