What farmer's market do you go to?  I'm in Alexandria, and went to the old town market and wasn't impressed.  I think you're a bit farther away, but do you have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Re: *SuperGreen*

  • Unfortunately we're a fair bit farther west of you.  I go to the Leesburg Farmer's Market in Loudoun County, which are run by the Loudoun Valley Homegrown Markets Association (LVHMA). I'm guessing you "weren't impressed" with the Alexandria market because you found a lot of crafts, pottery, homemade jewelry, and wholesale produce?  I *love* that the LVHMA Markets are "Producer-Only" Markets which means that the vendors must be the ones who raise, grow and produce the products they sell. No crafts, other than agriculture-based crafts, are permitted at the LVHMA Farmers Markets.  The vendors undergo inspection from time-to-time and if they are found to be re-selling products that they do not produce themselves they are removed and terminated from the markets.

I did some quick Googling for "Producer-only" farmers market Alexandria and found:

The Mount Vernon Farmer's Market in Alexandria and the Vienna Farmer's Market are producer-only.  The West End market is "primarily producer-only," which sounds a bit iffy.  There are 5 markets listed on the City of Alexandria's webpage, maybe try a different one?

All seven Smart Markets are producer-only, http://www.smartmarkets.org/
