White Trash Party

We are throwing one for a friend's housewarming. I've been looking everywhere for ideas, but was wondering if anyone had been to one and what you liked or didn't like about them. Feel free to include menu items and games.

TIA

Re: White Trash Party

  • Just had one the beginning of June and had a blast. We didn't go all out because we we're quite lazy and it got changed to our house last minute. The funniest part was my best friend made a casserole of mac-n-cheese mixed with hot dogs, topped with fritos and cheese in a can. I kid you not, that thing was gone by the end of the night.

As for games, you can play toilet seat horseshoes, or a partner game where the girls bend over with a full tp roll between there legs and the guys have a (new) plunger between their legs have to waddle, put the tp roll through the plunger and run back.

  • 40 oz come to mind
  • We go to a white trash party every year and love it! The food usually consists of fried twinkies, spam, and fruit roll up sushi. The games usually involve throwing old things you would have thrown away. Like an old microwave or computer monitor. Make sure to remove the glass or anything else you don?t want shattered in your yard though J The guys liked the throwing games the best. Also, a prize is awarded to the best outfit.

  • Bless you all - but I wouldn't want to go to one of these.  So many nice and good people are struggling now that I wouldn't find this amusing or entertaining.

What about celebrating the beauty of the season?  Or picking another more upbeat theme?  Carnival?  BBQ?  Anything please. :)

I agree.  I think this would have been fun in college but I'd give it the side-eye now.  Someone brought this up here awhile ago and it started a big debate over whether it's offensive or not.  I'm on the fence about how offensive it is but I don't think eating Spam and throwing microwaves makes for a fun party.

In the interest of answering your question, I think I remember some of the suggestions brought up on the old thread was to seat people in plastic lawn chairs, have everyone make up a trashy name for themselves or have them pull pre-made names tags out of a bin and serve low-end pre-packaged food.

  • What about a mustache party instead?  It's easy.  Go to Spencers & they have mustache sets.. then you have everyone (male & female) wear a mustache all night!  haha

Lol!!!  I'm dying here!  Thanks, I needed a good laugh tonight :o)

  • I think people get offended too easily. In all reality I doubt anyone, no matter what their social status is, throws microwaves and eats spam. It's all in good fun and I hope your party is a hit!!

I'm a little late to answering this, but I'll throw my $0.02 in the mix anyway.

First, to answer your questions -- I've been to two. The first one was pretty fun, the second one not so much. The one that was fun only really focused the theme on the costumes people wore and a *little* bit on the food/drink (there were 40s and lots of cases of Keystone and one or two "themed" foods, but there was other stuff to eat and drink as well). The second one was really over the top with the theme, which actually made it somewhat uncomfortable. To respond to the conversation that's been going on, I don't really find them "offensive" per say, but I do find them a bit juvenille. In college, it was silly and funny and, truthfully, done in bad taste, but we were kids and didn't really care. The older I got, the more lame I thought it was/is. If I were invited to one now, I wouldn't go. However, that's just me and my taste -- I wouldn't judge someone for throwing one or attending one.

The thing that is irking me a bit is the fact that you are throwing it as a housewarming party. It seems werid to me to use a theme like this when you're having a party where the purpose is to celebrate a big life step/investment and welcome friends and family into your new home. I don't think themes really say that, especially not the theme you're considering. Personally, I would say if you're going to throw a housewarming, keep it simple. Then throw a theme party later (or at your own place or something).

I love your sense of humor!! :)

  • I'm not offended, I just think they're tacky and wouldn't want to go to one. Why wouldn't you just have a nice party for them instead?
