Let's Talk

Hi!

This board isn't exactly kicking so I think we should all get to know each other better!

My name is Katie and I have been married to C for 5 months (Newlyweds!!!). We are the parents to a five month old cat named Mally and no, we are not pregnant and do not plan to be for awhile... Can you tell we get asked that all of the time? :)

I love baking, decorating cakes, Grey's Anatomy, and shopping my heart out.

This is sounding more and more like a personal add :)

Tell me something about you!

  • Hi Katie!

I've been married to DH for 2 yrs (well almost), we are the parents to 2 2yr old cats, Serenity and Beckett. We don't have kids yet, haven't really been asked it a lot, but I'm looking forward to that point in my life!

I love to cook, bake, play video games, crochet, lurk on the EFF board, this board, and baby names board.

    Next person!

    Hi!

I've been married for almost 6 months now. We don't have kids or pets, and are just enjoying the freedom to do whatever we want whenever we want to. As much as I'd love to get a dog (DH doesn't like cats), I'm not ready to give up my ability to just take off for a last minute weekend vacation. No one has really been asking us about kids, though my mom called me one night when she was really tipsy and said she was surprised that we weren't planning on trying in the next few months!

I enjoy photography, gardening, and traveling. (I agree, Katie, this is starting to sound like a personal ad!) Lately I've been spending most of my time looking for a teaching position, but if I don't find one for the fall I plan to continue subbing and go back to school for a special ed endorsement. Hopefully then I'll be able to find the right job for me!

  • Hi! I'm Jen, and my H and I just moved to Chicago from VA about 3 weeks ago so I could take a post-doc at Northwestern. I've been married for 4 years (wow, time flies!). We have 3 cats and a dog, no kids any time soon.

I like knitting, reading, cooking, cake decorating, video & board games, traveling, beer & wine, and all kinds of other things. I'm also learning to like baseball even though it is definitely not my favorite sport  ;-)  We also love trying new things, which makes moving a lot of fun!

I haven't been on this board very long, do you all ever do GTG's? We really need to meet some more people since we're new here!

    Jen

  • Hello!  I'm Jodie, been married since March 2009.  We are also now parents to a kitten named Heidi we got about 3 weeks ago.  She is 11 weeks now and the most adorable thing ever and as sweet and affectionate as can be.  I have to AW a picture of her because I learned she loves taking rides in my new purse :)

    image

We are not TTC yet, but getting close.  We've been together almost 11 years now and are ready to start expanding the family so we started off with a kitten.

I love to read, cook (cooking blog in siggy), run (running the 1/2 marathon in August), and just spend time with friends and family.  I don't post a lot, but I love to lurk the What's Cooking? boards and lately the Pets board.

  • Raeyn, I love the picture in your signature! It is so adorable!

  • Raeyn what kind of teacher are you?
  • Jodie,

Are you involved in any running clubs or do you just train on your own?

  • Jen,

I am super new to Chicago too. So new that I am not done moving yet! We are originally from MS and I am so ready to stop going back and forth and just STAY in Chicago!

Glad I am not the only Chicago Newbie!

  • I've been married 2 yrs, lived in the city for 4, and am an RN in a NICU.  I work night shift and every other weekend, and DH travels as a consultant, so needless to say we rarely see each other.  I am obsessed with my cat, annoyed by our dog, and love to run and workout.  Welcome to Chicago newbies :)

I have a type 03 elementary certificate, which sadly isn't much in demand without any endorsements. I would love to teach K-3, but as I was subbing this year I found that I really enjoy any grade, including special education.

Thanks! I was really happy with how our wedding photos turned out.

It seems there have been a few GTGs in the suburbs, but not so much in the city. I have met some Nesties through the book club, though, which meets the first Thursday of every other month. You can search back a page or two for information on that.

  • I'm glad this thread is up here, it's neat to hear from a few people!

I saw the post about the book club and I am planning on coming to that (I really should get on reading the book). I will definitely keep my eyes peeled for GTG's too!

I was really sad when we moved, I missed the Wilton tent sale. I've heard you can get some really good deals on baking/cake decorating goodies. I can't wait for next year!

  • My name is Caryn and I've been married for 2 years (as of July 6) and have a DD who will be 1 on July 16.  I lived in the city for 6 years and have been in the 'burbs now for about 5 years.  I teach first grade and will be returning to work in the fall after taking this past school year off to stay home with DD.

I'd love to see this board pick up a little!

    Jodie,

Are you involved in any running clubs or do you just train on your own?

I train on my own.  I am a little embarassed to join a running club because I am pretty slow.  I usually run 12 minute miles.  It is not great, but I can run a few hours without stopping so I'll take that accomplishment.  Do you belong to a club?  Do you run in the city or suburbs?

  • I don't run anywhere right now. I used to love running but I haven't done it in awhile, I am so out of shape now!! Lol
  • Hey!

My name is Michelle and I've been married to MH since May 2007. We have a little girl named Emily that was born in Sept. and we also have a little doggie that will be 3 in December.

I LOVE to bake & I'm trying to get into gardening.

  • I'm Kate.  I've been married almost 4 years and lived in Chicago for over 1 1/2 years-we were in Columbus before moving here.  No kids, just a dog that thinks she's a 35 lb cat.  I hate to cook but love to eat.  I also like wine, beer and run/work-out to balance out the food and alcohol.  My passion is traveling and just got back from a week in Spain with DH.  I'm in the book club but missed the last meeting and hope to go to the next one.
  • Hi! I'm brand new to the Nest, so I thought this would be a great post to start off with! I've been married for almost 4 months now and am truly enjoying married life. No kids of any sort yet and not planning on it for a few years - I'm getting a black lab the moment we get a yard though! We both absolutely love to cook and bake (especially pies) and have set a goal to try to cook something new and adventurous at least once a week. I love to read and will definitely have to check out the book club. We love to indulge in food, wine, and beer on the weekends while sitting on the couch watching movie after movie or entertaining our friends, so I'm now on a workout kick to balance it all out!

Looking forward to spending some time on the boards!

And guessing by your picture above your name, you're a Packers fan?? Maybe I'm not the only Packers fan on this board??

I"ve been married for 14 months, we live in the city, trying to sell our condo to get out to the burbs. We have 2 cats & dog. Might TTC next summer.

Oh yes..HUGE Packers fan! I'm also a huge 'Hawks fan as well as Sox fan. I love that there is another Packers fan! :)

  • It's been awhile since I popped in here!

I'm Joelen and I've been married for 4+ years. We just had our son a little over 2 months ago. We used to live downtown (Lakeshore East) but moved to Gurnee in April just before our son was born.

Currently I'm a stay at home mom but I'm in the midst of starting culinary school next month and currently working on my culinary business. I'm also in the process of transitioning my online culinary groups, What's Cookin, Chicago? and What's Pouring, Chicago?, into a recreational cooking school and social venue for culinary focused events. I want to continue doing what I have been doing the past 3 years online, only now in a public, physical location. I provide clients and guests hands-on/interactive cooking classes, educational food lectures and discussions, as well as wine classes, themed cooking parties, culinary food tours around the city and suburbs and even private catering.

  • Hi everyone!

I was born & raised in Chicago and have been living out in the burbs for the last 2.5 years.  I am still getting used to suburbia!  ahaha.  Although I hate my commute, I enjoy working in the city (West Loop) so that I am here everyday to hang out with my friends & all my family who still live in the city.

We've been married a little over a year (since May 09) & loving married life!

I enjoy cooking, baking & throwing themed parties in our home.

I work as a project assistant in the construction industry, so times are tough right now.  Not sure how much longer I will have my job.  I've survived 7 rounds of layoffs in the last 18 months and our division has gone from 70+ employees to 7.

On the side, I work as a wedding videographer, album designer and rep for my friends company that also offers video montages, DIY photography and video invitations.

    Are you from WI?

I'm from Milwaukee and try to go home for as many games as possible so I can wear my Packers shirts. We go to The Atlantic on Lincoln & Foster when we don't get back to Milwaukee, one of the bartenders is a Packer fan and they have great breakfasts & burgers. Can't wait for preseason!

  • I'm a little late to the game... I hardly ever check this board because it's so slow!

I've been married to DH for 3 years, together for almost 8 years.  We lived in the city for about a year, and now live in the far north 'burbs, not far from Gurnee.  We have 2 furbabies, a lab/boxer rescue that's in my siggy and an orange rescue kitty that doesn't get a picture (poor guy).  We started TTC last month and so hopefully we'll be adding to our family with human babies soon!  I like to read, scrapbook, hang out with family and friends, go on hikes, and just relax with my DH.

  • Hello, my name is Celia.  Been married since Halloween 2009.  We hope to be TTC by the end of the year.

I also love to cook, dine out, pretty much anything regarding food.  I used to host brunches and dinners when I first moved to Chicago about 5 years ago from NY.   I live in the city in the South Loop.

There seems to be a lot of food lovers on here...maybe we should go to brunch or dinner sometime...potluck?

I am also in the book club.  Bummed I cannot make the August meeting as I will be vacationing in Paris.

  • Hi everyone, I'm a newbie because I'm just moving to Chicago - Wicker Park (we'll arrive today actually)! My name is Lisa, we're moving from FL, but I'm from Canada originally. We'll be married for 2 months on the 30th. No plans for babies for a while since HH is starting school at Rush this Fall. We're excited for this new chapter of our lives! Any advice for someone fresh to Chicago is welcome ;) Nice to 'meet' all of you.

We should definitely get together for brunch some time. It seems like there are lots of people interested in having GTGs and making this board more active, but people don't post because it always seems so dead.

As it turns out, I'll have to miss the August book club meeting too since it was the only week DH and I could go on vacation to Aruba. I know, poor us, right? Stick out tongue

    Yay, another newbie!

  • Welcome to the 'hood.  It's a lot of fun around here.  We moved to WP in 2005...my husband and I both grew up in the area and we were kids this was an area to AVOID, but obviously it's much different now.  Have fun exploring!
