Help with window boxes!

Hello! I'm new to the board and semi-new to gardening.

My window boxes are mostly shade, but I really want a flowering plant in them. I tried Petunias earlier in the Spring, but they grew kind of out of control and were too leggy.

I tried New Guinea Impatients later on and they have died (I think from not enough sun).

Any suggestions?! The only thing that has flourished were my pansies in the winter. Thanks!

Re: Help with window boxes!

  • Try the regular impatiens or begonias. There is a house in my area of town that has beautiful window boxes full of impatiens.

I second that.  New Guinea impatients need more sun than regular impatients.

  • I would do what PPs suggested.  Tuberous begonias are really pretty and take shade.  You can also do coleus (no blooms but great foliage).
