Re: Since BOTB day heres a fun question

  • as a teacher I can't tell you how many names have been ruined by a pesky little 8th grader but we do have our names pretty much locked down and I pray I can have a kid before this years crop turns my opinion at least with our boy choice.

    Girl: Ella (S's grandmother's name)

    Boy:Jack

we have not decided on middle names but may pick Cynthia since it is both our Moms' name

Sue's grandmothers full name is Ella Lucy which I like but we have not gotten that far.  I guess we will wait till we actually make a kid

  • Well we have:

Grayson James (Gray is an anagram of L's father Gary and the James for Jimmy Carter)

Carter Julian (Carter after Jimmy Carter and Julian is my dad's name)

If we'd of had a girl she would have been

Emerson Grace or Emerson Anabelle (L's grandmother's name)

We talked about names for a long time before TTC. We settled on Grayson and Emerson before were got pregnant.  We agreed on Carter's name really easily and went back and forth for Grayson's middle name until about 2 months before his birth.

I am still kinda sad we won't be using Emerson.

  • we've had our names selected forever (although the middles are up for debate and change every once in a while, hence the options):

    Boys:

Jacob Benjamin/ Grayson (i love it!)

    Lucas Matthew

Kyle (although now that we have a Kylie, this might be out of the running)

    Girl:

Brooke Ava (A's mom's name was Avis)

  • Emerson is one of my favorite names!  I would be sad not to get to use it too.   If we have two girls that could be a possiblitity Ella and Emerson would be cute right?

  • We've pretty much settled on:

    Jack William
    and
    Gwenivere Mae

For a second, so far I like the names
Benjamin or Gabrial (with the middle name of James probably, Trav's middle name)
    and
    Aurora or Anwyn

  • Have a third?  Bite your tongue. Stick out tongue I am always saying that I would love for someone to drop a newborn off at my door around 8am and pick them up around 8pm. I really don't miss the feedings ever 2-3 hours all night long or pumping 8-9 times a day.  So if anyone in the DC area wants babysitting, I am your woman. Big Smile

We were originally pregnant with triplets and never found out the sex of the 3rd baby. In our heads it was a girl (that we'd of named Emerson) so we'll never use the name.

  • Oh, I apologize if my statement, came off brash. I was unaware of the triplets, I am sorry for you loss. I do apologize. Zip it! <---- That's me biting my tongue.

  • Oh, no worries - not brash at all! It was awhile ago.  And I actually asked L if we got another cat if we could name it Emerson. She said no. Stick out tongue

  • we both love aidan for a boy--although apparently that's become a big thing because of that sex in the city show (i don't know, i've never seen it).

i also love jacob, but it would take some discussion. c's very young second cousin, who was killed in a car-train accident a couple of years ago, was named jacob. if we decided to use it i would definitely want to talk to his parents first and make sure it was okay with them.

girls names are really hard for us. i love classic names like emma, which she isn't so fond of, and she likes more modern names--sometimes with weird spellings which i really, really don't like.

  • We're not sharing the actual names (with anyone, probably, including family!), but here's the basic set-up:
-- For a boy, we have a first name we like that isn't "from" anyone + a middle name that is my maternal grandmother's maiden name (we were very close).
-- For a girl, we would use the first part of Sylvia's mother's first name (S is very close to her mom) + a middle name that is my middle name (and is also a family name).
--Our/their last name will be hyphenated, and will reference both our fathers.

Sylvia has been lobbying (hard) for us to name one of our kids after me, but I am afraid that would seem a little strange and narcissistic. The whole "Jr" thing is much more usual/accepted among men.

P.S. If my SIL is lurking... Don't tell anyone else the above!  :)

  • If we have a boy it has to be Timothy which I really don't like.  But if it's a girl the choice is mine and I really like Paige.

  • We also are keeping our name choices a secret, even from family, until the baby arrives. We each have a tradition that we want to follow so we have an agreement that for a boy we will follow C's family tradition: having the initials CMU, (first) boy's first name will begin with "C" and then have our hyphenated names (my new last name) M-U. For a girl, we will follow my family's tradition and just like my nana's first  name and my mom's and my middle name, her middle name would be Anne. We have the boy's name picked and a good contender for girl's first name, but ultimately we want to have a top three for each and a gender neutral name in case we have an intersex baby. We don't plan on finding out the sex of the baby, so we want options. Based on what the baby looks like and how we feel about the short list, we will decide for sure after the birth and then announce it to everyone.
