Other things to do in Wisconsin Dells?

H and I are going to the Dells in August for our honeymoon, mainly for Noah's Ark.  However, I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for fun things to do in the Dells that aren't water parks/duck tours/shows?  Like, do they have ghost tours or anything like that?  Nearby Renaissance Faires?  Also, does anyone have any recs for good places to eat there?

 TIA!

Re: Other things to do in Wisconsin Dells?

  • That'll be a fun honeymoon! H and I went there for a weekend away awhile ago and had a blast. Here are some of the things that I've done there in the past that I recommend:

    Upper/Lower Dells Boat Tours

    Walking around/shopping in Downtown Dells

    Lost Canyon horsedrawn carriage tour

    Priate's Cove Miniture Golf

looks like there's some ghost tours- just google Wisconsin Dells ghost

    Restaurants:

    Moosejaw

Denny's Classic Diner (yummy breakfast- not to be confused with Denny's Restaurant)

I've heard that the Cheese Factory is good but I've never eaten there

  • The Paul Bunyan restaurant is great for breakfast, and the price is comparable to Denny's or IHOP. It's all you can eat family style.

We thought the food at Marley's was pretty good. If you like crab legs, the buffet at the Chula Vista resort is great. It's a bit pricey, but I know I ate my money's worth in crab. Mexicali Rose is a Mexican restaurant right on the river that's pretty good.

There are now zip line tours in the dells now. I haven't been on any, but they looked okay.

If you like roller coasters, there's Mt Olympus. Mini golfing at Pirates Cove. You could do the old time photos anywhere. That might be fun to get dressed up in an old time wedding dress.

We took DD to the Timbavati wildlife park a few years ago. You can buy food an actually feed the giraffes by hand.

I grew up near the Dells but haven't really done a lot of the touristy things there. We mainly just did the water parks as kids.

This website looks like a great list. http://www.dells.com/wisconsin-dells-attractions/wisconsin-dells-attractions.htm

  • Restaurants:  Ishnala is a supper club.  It is set in the woods.  Very pretty- ask for a table by the windows if possible- they get busy.  They have steaks, shrimp, chicken, etc.  They give you cheese spread and crackers when you sit down.  The bar is beautiful as well.  Check the web for directions- there are signs but the roads are windy and long.

Also, Field's at the Wilderness Resort.  AWESOME food- pricey- expect to pay about $50.00 an entree- but it is well worth it!  Steaks are their speciality but they have chicken, lamb, fish, shrimp, and lobster.  Apps I've had that are really good are the shrimp scampi (but you only get 5 16-20 count shrimp), pizza (wood fired), crab cake, and the lobster bisque.  For the steaks- if you like garlic and mushrooms and parmesan- get them Field's style! Also the premiere potato is a twice baked potato with jalapenos, cheese, and bacon- YUM!  You can make reservations here (I'm not sure about Ishnala) and if you do ask to be put in the smaller dining room with the fireplace in a booth.  The main dining room can be noisy.  My dh and I ate here the night after our wedding.  We had eaten here many times before and are never disappointed.

  • I used to live near the Dells.  Try a meal at the Moosejaw (super nachos are the best!).  If you want something a little nicer/ pricier, go to Ishnala.  BEAUTIFUL location and amazing food.

Also, piano fondue is AWESOME at Monks- the one at the Wilderness. Their show is second to none and I think the cover is only $5. You will die laughing.  Here's their website for schedule http://www.monksbarandgrill.com/events/index.php?category=3

Finally, just south of Wisconsin Dells is Devil's Lake State Park.  It's absolutely gorgeous.  The hiking is amazing, the beach is nice, and you can rent canoes/ kayaks.   Definitely head up one of the bluffs though.  Have a great time!
