Christine

Where are you guys in DC?  DC proper or the burbs?  We live in Laurel (1/2 way between DC and B'more.)

Rainbow Families is doing Maybe Baby workshops.  I know they just started one session and think they'll do another after the first of the year (I may facilitate them if they do them during the week.)  We did something similar through Lesbian Services many years ago and thought they were really helpful - and it was nice to meet other couples TTC.  They also have a pregnancy group which was fun - and we still keep in contact with some of those moms!

  • I had no idea you were so close!! We are in North College Park, just barely inside the beltway (if you go south on Rt 1 from Laurel, and cross over the beltway, we are down in that little neighborhood to the left immediately after you cross over). We go to Laurel all the time!!

Funny you should mention Maybe Baby-- We did the Maybe Baby class through Lesbian Services last year! It was fun and so nice to meet other couples. (Most of them were really young, though, so we haven't really kept up with any of them... nothing against young couples, of course, but we didn't really "click".)

I'll have to check out Rainbow Families. I didn't know anyone else ran similar groups. I would love to maybe do another round of some sort of group, now that we are closer to ttc. It'd be nice to share the journey with some local people.  :)

  • Rainbow Families is actually taking over the groups from Lesbian Services.  Funny that there were primarily younger women in your group.  Ours was pretty mixed, which is nice since at the time I was 30 and L was 42 (now we are 34 and 46.)

Here is the website to Rainbow Families http://www.rainbowfamiliesdc.org/

Right now there isn't too much for TTC families - aside from access to the message board where you can ask about GLBT friendly pediatricians/OBs/etc. (although we never sought them out. We went to whoever was convenient and had a good reputation and just presented ourselves as any other family coming to the practice. So far we haven't had any issues.)

Do you and DP work in DC?  I work for Children's Hospital and L works from a consulting firm in Reston (talk about a commute!)

It is nice to have someone local!

  • Too funny. Our wedding date was March 8th too.  Just in 2003. Big Smile What a great day!

  • Thanks so much for the link-- I'll make sure to keep an eye out for events and whatnot. (I need to find a new GYN to do a pre-ttc PCOS workup for me; maybe I'll ask on there.)

We both work for the federal government, but our office is in MD, just outside of DC (near Andrews AFB). We have a pretty nice commute-- 30 minutes by car (we are opposite traffic on 495) or 1:15 by metro. Muuuch less stressful than Laurel-Reston, thank goodness!

That is so neat that your wedding was on March 8th! What are the odds of us having the same wedding date, several years apart? And both on Saturdays, no less!
