Hey ladies-- driving question
MH and I are taking a long weekend next weekend. We're leaving from Danvers and are driving to New London for the ferry, and I'm trying to make reservations but I'm not sure how long it's going to take with traffic on a Friday afternoon. Mapquest says 2.5 hours from Danvers to New London, so should I plan for 4 hours? We're likely going to leave at 3. Thanks!

I do that drive all the time, my family is from LI. It takes us two hours from North Andover and we go down 495 to 290 to 390. We never hit traffic on this route and it takes us two hours. On a Friday you are likely to hit a lot of traffic down through 95, if you go this way I would plan at least 4 hours, remembering if you get there late you lose your reservation and the ferry is pretty busy. I would suggest goind 495 if you can, its a little out of the way but much less traffic.
That's the route we usually do, we've been to LI a few times. Just never done the drive on a Friday afternoon in the summer time
I'm trying to convince DH to get out at 1 so we definitely won't have a problem with traffic, but I don't know if that's going to happen.
We're going to Fire Island, have you been there? What part of LI are you from? One of my best friends lives in Southold.
