HELP!!!

Last week I pulled my clothes out of the dryer and to my horror discovered that a tube of chapstick had gone in with them and melted on everything!  I Googled and it looked like all I had to do was wash my clothes again and it would solve the problem.  Well, I washed them again and the stains are not gone and actually are darker and bigger!  HELP ME!!!  This was almost all of my clothes minus a couple of articles.  I wear these clothes to work and I'm a director, I need to look nice not have stains all over my clothes!

I tried Oxygen Bleach, that's it.  Any other suggestions???  Any products you swear by???

Re: HELP!!!

  • Oxy Clean?

  • Noooo!!!

I really wish I had some suggestions for you!  This is a nightmare!  I hope something works on those stains :(

  • YESS!!

You need to get some De Solv It and some regular, old fashioned blue Dawn dish soap. Saturate all of the oily spots with De Solv It, and let rest for an hour or so. Then saturate all of the De Solv It spots with blue Dawn, and let sit for about an hour.

Then wash in the hottest water the fabrics will tolerate, but don't add any soap (you might overflow your washing machine if you add more soap - if you have a front loader you should rinse as much Dawn as you can out in the sink so you don't overflow the washer). It might take several cycles with no soap to get all of the suds to rinse away, because Dawn is powerful stuff.

Once the suds are gone, hang dry. Repeat the whole DeSolvIt + Dawn thing as needed until the stains are gone, but it's pretty unlikely that you'll need to do it more than once.

Good luck!! I haven't found an oily stain yet that this doesn't work on, even stuff that's gone through the dryer a few times.

  • Oh, and oxygen bleach/oxyclean won't touch the oily stains.
  • Oh wait - you aren't in Phoenix? I believe that Walmart also carries Desolvit :)

Thanks for the suggestion Mrs. Destructo! I definitely copied, pasted, and printed this to try it on some of our shirts!!!

  • I was also going to recommend DeSolvIt.  It seriously does wonders.  MrsD mentioned to hang dry... SOOO IMPORTANT. When clothes go through the dryer with a stain, the stain will more than likely set. :(  Good luck!!!
