I did a little research of stomach acid balance and my symptoms on the internet since the ultrasound, HIDA scan, endoscopy, and CAT scan all turned out to be clear and non-diagnostic, and have found a possible diagnosis... All this time I've been thinking that I've got too much acid in my stomach, but it's possibly that my stomach is producing too little acid if it's producing any at all, which gives you most of the same symptoms. However, there was one symptom that was different - hair loss. My hair has been shedding a LOT, and I've just thought that I need a better, more frequent deep conditioner or more moisturizer. I've upped those and it hasn't gotten better, but didn't think it could be related to my tummy. It turns out that when your stomach doesn't produce enough or any HCI (hydrochloric acid), it can't break down food or absorb nutrients properly and accounts for an imbalance of the stomach's pH level. So, it's suggested to replace that HCI by taking a natural supplement of the same. If your stomach is producing it's own acid and you have too much already, it will make your tummy burn. If not, it will make your tummy feel better immediately. So I've been taking them for a week now and have been EATING!!! I didn't realize how little I had been eating until I stepped on a scale and noticed I'd actually lost weight, and then got my appetite back. I won't have to take them forever, either. Apparently, by me taking the supplements, my stomach will get use to having HCI in it and will gradually start producing it's own again. As it does this and the pH level becomes more balanced, my stomach will become intolerant to the supplements. I started out taking them everytime I ate (4 a day). Already I'm down to 2 - 3. Still have some small burps, but no pain, nausea, or pressure. Thanks so much for thinking of me and praying for me! Your thoughts and prayers have really helped me get through it!
Re: My self-diagnosis... (LONG)
yay!!! i am glad you are feeling better....
sometimes, you just have to get things done yourself you know! i hate that docs could never help you!
So what specifically are you taking? I'm so glad you're feeling better!!!!
I can totally relate, after having my gallbladder out, I've had IBS ever since. So I avoid certain foods but wondering if this would help me.......
i'm so glad you feel better. the internet has such a wealth of info. i know sometimes they say it's bad to self-diagnos yourself, but i have found that it has helped me to be more informed about what is going on with my body. i'm glad that you are finally getting some answers and are getting some relief.
dh actually *just* had a HIDA scan this past mon. a few weeks ago his blood test came back showing that he had elevated enzymes in his liver, so we went through a battery of tests like you (another blood test, an abdominal U/S, and a HIDA test). so i can just imagine all the stress you went through with all those tests. it's scary just sitting around waiting for test results to come back. we are waiting for his HIDA scan to come back and see how well his GB is functioning.
Good job, Alesha!!! I'm so glad you're feeling better
Tiffany, I hope your DH's tests come back quickly. It does suck to wait, and it's like no one is in a hurry to let you know the results.
I definitely couldn't have figured this out had I not had all those other tests and cancelled out all the possibilities of gall bladder, pancreas, acid reflux, bacterial infection, and ulcers. What I'm taking is Benzain Hydrochloride. I picked it up from GNC for $4.98! Like the 'net said, you'll pretty much know if it helps or hurts with the first one you take so I took a chance (and it was cheap). I've also got IBS. My doctor thought my IBS had just changed and I would just have to live with it, but now I know it didn't. If you don't have stomach acid problems, I would dare say don't try it. What do you take for your IBS? I've used Benefiber for the last few years.
I'm so glad that your feeling better. It's no fun at all feeling bad, but bravo to you for looking online and getting your own information. Like my mother says Dr's aren't always right.
bless your heart!
I had tons of similar problems back a couple years ago. It was horrible.
The dr. never really figured it out. I just got better, thank God.
Glad you are feeling better.
Ok I'm butting in
I have IBS and my GI put me on the best stuff ever. Its pamine forte. It has helped A LOT! Now I only have to take it as needed instead of twice a day when I first started on it.
Glad you are feeling better!
Okay, I'm looking pamine forte up right now!
