Where do you live?

City, suburbs, or the country?

I have always lived in the burbs.  When we visit my family in the country I get hives thinking about living there.  I don't think I could live in a big city either though - I'm too panicky (and I can't parallel parkEmbarrassed).  Guess I'll always be a suburbs girl.

Re: Where do you live?

  • Used to be considered the country until the city expanded around us... Now I'd probably consider it the 'burbs.
  • The 'burbs.  I prefer it.  Downtown is WAY to expensive and the kids like having a yard.  I also like having a driveway to wash my own car.

But the country also holds nothing for me.  I had enough of that with my grandparents down south.  ick.

City (smaller-sized city, so in some ways almost like a 'burb of itself.  If that makes sense).

  • City!!! :o)  I was a city girl in the 5th grade. lol  After living in a real city (no, Hoosierville is not a real city), I know I couldn't live anywhere else.

I don't drive, so I don't have to park either. Considering there's only 1 parking space on the streets for every 5 cars, that's probably a good thing.

  • I am/always have been a suburbs girl.  I don't see myself ever living in the country for sure.  I'd be cool with the city though, except I'd like to have a yard when we have kids someday.
  • Suburbs girl here too. I don't really like the country other than for a visit. I don't like being so far away from everything. My sister lives out in a country area and it takes her an hour just to get started going anywhere. I'm also not sure I'd like living in the city because I like to have my space too.
  • Suburbs. Always have!?

I do like some big cities and would be willing to give it a try for Chris- San Fran or Portland, maybe even Denver or Seattle. Would totally try it if that's what Chris wanted (for his work)?

  • the city i live in is technically considered a city, but its very very small and its surrounded by country towns. i would never say to someone that i "live in the city" because its that small.

  • I live in a mid-size city. I've almost always lived in a city. Couldn't imagine living in the country and being soo far away from everything.

  • Born and raised 'burbs girl.  H is a country boy at heart and wants to move further out of the city.  My stipulation is less than 30 minutes from a real mall (REAL mall- none of that small town Belk wannabe mall mess).  He knew that when he married me.

  • Unfortunately the suburbs. But we JUST moved here. I lived in the city (DC) for the last 3 years... im sad but i am so much closer to work and shopping that im going to save craploads of money and have way more time too.

H grew up in the city (Detroit) so he needed to get the hell outta the city. I love DC, but considering I dont even get to enjoy it because all I do is work and commute, its better for us right now.

Eventually H wants to move to the country. Eh... I dont think that will happen. Maybe like half country... but there is no way I am driving more than 45 minutes to work, and DC area traffic is a biitch, so there is no way we are going country country. Small town or lots of land very near town, YES, but not have to drive over 5 miles to get to the nearest grocery store or whatever. Hell NO!

I have a feeling we will end up staying in the burbs though. Just because it will kind of be a compromise for the two of us. But it HAS to be like the cool burbs. Not the kind I grew up in (which was like all white catholics). Ick... and we have to make a trip to the city at least twice a month. I need me some culture, and I really want the kids to experience city stuff, since I never really got to even though we were like 10 minutes from the city.

YES!  H is from a one EZ Mart town.  The nearest Wal-Mart (where they had to do all their Christmas shopping cause it's the ONLY STORE) is over an hour from his mom's.  Uh, no.

  • City.  Both H and I grew up in the country, like 45 minutes minimum to get ANYWHERE, and neither of us will go back.  We don't live RIGHT downtown, so we still have some space, but can be in the middle of downtown Denver in under 10 minutes.  Perfect.  :)

  • Borough girl! lol So i guess I will go with City

    image
  • Technically it's a city, but it's set-up more like a 'burb.. and I call it a "suburb city of Phoenix", cuz Phoenix is surrounded by smaller towns/cities. I grew up in a city (parallel parking and all! hehe) ;) but I like living where we do more, bigger yard, driveway, more space.
  • City girl for sure.  But I have lived in the suburbs before.  I love a big city but I also love a small town like where DH is from.  My sister lives a small town life now after years in the city and loves it.  I think I could too.
  • I've always lived in a city. I suppose my parents now live in the suburbs but I grew up in the city. My H is from the country. Right now we live in the city... if you can really call it a city... and we're okay with it. We lived in Orlando for a while and I don't want to go back to THAT anytime soon... if I could pick, I'd say country. I like the quiet and open spaces :)
  • We live in the city - if you can call it that bc its a pretty small one. I don't really like it bc I am a suburbs girl. That is where I grew up and I would love to go back to living in the 'burbs.

  • I guess you could call it the suburbs, but it's a lot more rural than the 'burbs of big cities (dirt driveway, no town water, deer in the yard! But Target is 5 minutes away.). But that's Maine for you!

DH and I are buying a house in the next couple of months and haven't yet decided if we want to be in a neighborhood or something with more space. He grew up in the country so it's what he's used to, but we're leaning towards a more 'burb-like neighborhood so the future kids can ride their bikes and play with other kids.

  • Country. I love it out here. I would actually love to live further away from the city.
  • Country side of the 'burbs. There are def. different degrees of suburbs down here. Where my parents built their house 22 years ago used to be alllll farm lands; they were the first neighboorhood built. Now it's all built up and crowded! But the high school is out in the more farm-land country part. It's definately the most country high school in the city.

  • I'll always be a 'burbs girl. I like to visit the city, but I could never live in one...and the country? Please, there's no cell phone or internet reception where the corn grows!
  • Burbs, although technically it was just upgraded to a city...but so not a "city".  I grew up in the burbs with the city on the weekend (divorced parents) so I got the best of both worlds!  I remember my Dad practicing parallel parking with me for HOURS!!!  Thankfully he did as it does come in handy!

  • I grew up in the country.  In fact, I remember what it was like before Wal-Mart even showed up.  You'd have to drive thirty to forty-five minutes just to get a pair of underwear or socks.  Now, I live in a small town that is basically a suburb of Houston.  You have the massive gigantic area known as Houston and then all the small towns and small cities that surround Houston (all of which will eventually be annexed by Houston).
  • Born and raised in NYC 8 months ago I moved to the suburbs. I love it because I still work in the city so I get to live the best of both worlds.
