Getting a recruiter

Does anyone have any clue as to how to get in touch with an employment recruiter? (No temp/Manpower recruiters!)

I am starting to look for a new job, in a new career field. I want someone to see my experience and match that up with a local company that could utilize my experience.

I'm a little hesitant to openly post my resume on Monster.com, but that might be a way to get a recruiter (after weeding out the stupid Work From Home jobs). I've had family in major metro areas, in other time zones, have success with a recruiter, so I am hoping to have success as well.

 Thanks.

Re: Getting a recruiter

  • I would simply google recruiters in yoru area.  Depending where you are, there are so many recruiting agencies that specialize in certain industries.  But dont' knock temporary agencies right away, they can fill permanent placement jobs as well.   IMO, Monster.com and careerbuilder.com are a waste of time.  To much junk, and national jobs that aren't consistent with where you are looking.

    Happy Hunting!

  • That hasn't gotten me any luck. I'm in the Peoria, IL area. Presently I am not trying to specialize in a certain area (eg, some recruiters are looking to fill technicial positions, which I have no background in, so technical recruiters are not a good fit)... hence why I recruiter could find something that could work with my experience. Times like these I wish I lived in a bigger metro area with more "to it."

Something administrative, general business related, and not with a not-for-profit, but not sales, is what I am aiming for.

Please don't suggest Workforce Network to get ideas. They are a joke... I'm sure they are helpful to people who have never had to really look for a job or never made a resume, but for someone such as me with a degree and lots of common sense, they are not helpful. (And I've been there more than twice.)

Indeed.com has been my only friend as of lately. Computer

  • Yeah, Indeed.com is very helpful. The nice thing about that website is people who have previously worked there can post information about what it's like once you actually work for the company.  Something I wish I had discovered a few years ago before I took my first "real" job out of college.  Have you tried just looking at local website? I know there is a dubuqueaccess.com and maybe there is something like that in your area.  And remember...it's not what you know, it's who you know.  Spread the word like wildfire that you are up for grabs.
    Good luck!
  • Does Iowa State have a career center that could help you. At Michigan Tech, they worked to help their alumni. They had alumni networks in different parts of the country to help with job searches.
