Hello and Neighbor Issue

Hi Ladies! I'm new to this board and wanted to say hello!

I got married last year, and my husband and I just bought a house about a month ago. My question is about our neighbors. They seem like nice people- we intoduced ourselves when we moved in, and always wave to each other. BUT- they hang their wet laundry along our shared fence in the backyard. And it's not just a few things. It's a lot of laundry. And some of it falls and blows around in our yard. I don't want to be that bitchy neighbor and ask them to stop, but I'd really prefer not to see someone's underwear blowing around in my backyard. We're going to put up a higher fence eventually, but I'm not sure what to do in the interim.

Suggestions?

Re: Hello and Neighbor Issue

  • No way around it, you'll just have to talk to them about it.  We've had to talk to our neighbors about things here and there and they've been really understanding.  Just approach it calmly and let them know that their things are blowing around your yard and ask if it would be possible for them to put up a laundry line somewhere else.  I think it's a perfectly reasonable request, and hopefully they'll just say sorry and find another solution.

And welcome to the board!  Love all the newbies coming out of the woodwork lately.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • Welcome!  Like Rock said, there probably isn't any way around it.  Being the non-confrontational person I am, I'd probably even frame it with something like: "I'm just afraid they'll get dirty too" in addition to the actual frustration.  But, sometimes I'm a big wimp!

  • Thanks for the advice ladies! I may just get the husband to talk to them :)
