I grew up in Yorktown, VA, went to school at VCU and now live in western Henrico County. It's crazy how close we were through all of that!

My H and I just got married April 24th. We like to kayak (that's me in the sig pic), hike, camp and play with our 1 year old mutt. I wish I could cook, but it's a work in progress. I finally found a cook book that has simple recipes that actually taste good, so we have a small sampling of things to eat now instead of pizza and pasta.

Re: *prufrockswife*

  • That is crazy! My grandmother was in Newport News, so I passed though Yorktown a lot (and went to the battlefields, the beach, etc.). And I worked at Busch Gardens and Water Country USA, and I always took the Parkway to work.

I loved hiking in the valley; I'd never really been an "outdoor girl," but when you can be outside somewhere pretty it's hard not to go! Cooking can be daunting. I've had to get creative because my DH doesn't like vegetables and I did a lot of vegetarian cooking in my early days (noone ever got violently ill from an undercooked carrot), so I know a lot of meatless recipes. But I guess almost anything is better than hot pockets and mountain dew, which I think was what he subsisted on before we met!

So are there many ladies on here from the Central Virginia area?

  • It's crazy how small our world can be.

I think there are a few ladies in the Richmond area. There was a GTG last month, I believe, at a winery in Ashland but I couldn't go because I was heading out of town.  Hopefully we can set another one up again soon because in my 8 years in Richmond I haven't found any women to hang out with.

  • Yes, another GTG is a must! I moved here in November, and still haven't met too many local women (other than the ones I meet in my job -- I'm a newspaper reporter -- but you generally don't hang out with story sources). I am definitely in need of some group girl time.
